I can give you a better list tomorrow. But Lewis Spence is pretty good. There are some Native American stories on Lang's series.
Myths and Legends of the North American Indians
Paul Goble does really good retellings in children's book form.
Northern Tales: Stories from the Native Peoples of the Arctic and Sub-Arctic Regions
Velma Wallis
Trickster: Native American Tales: A Graphic Collection
American Indian Myths and Legends
Also most books on Native American Art include some myths and legends.

Thanks Chris!
I certainly have a lot of reading to do! I added the titles I mentioned above to our groups bookshelf, but unfortunately I could not get them into the Native American shelf.

I also really enjoy Storyteller by Leslie Marmon Silko. It's a mix of short stories, myths, poems, and creative nonfiction. And I love the few things I've read by Louise Erdrich, and American Indian Myths and Legends, which Chris recommends, is excellent. I recently bought Grass Dancer, but haven't read it yet.

Grass Dancer is probably my favourite. I just remembered another novel Zadayi Red by Caleb Fox is inspired by a Cherokee myth.

Okay, I'll see if I can do it.

Thanks Chris, I don't know why it did not work when I tried!
Brave Wolf and the Thunderbird: Tales of the People by Medicine Crow is a children's book. I used to read it to my son. The illustrations are gorgeous!

In past few years several books that I discovered through the Endicott Mythic Fiction list made made a deep impression on me:
Bear Daughter by Judith Berman
The Antelope Wife by Louise Erdrich
Monkey Beach by Eden Robinson
The Grass Dancer by Susan Power
All were good, but I particularly loved Bear Daughter and The Grass Dancer.
All of these books were novels that worked in Native American Myths and as I read them I became aware of how I have not read many First Nation Myths in their original forms.
So any suggestions would be appreciated!
