I started this group in the hopes that others will read Simak with me as a virtual book club.

I'm hoping to keep up a pace of one short story and one novel a month. No more and no faster because we are all busy with our "real" lives and with plenty of other reading interests.

The plan is to read through Simak's bibliography in more or less chronological order. The novels should be easier to do this way. The short fiction may become difficult to track down. We'll read what we can find without spending a fortune tracking down early pulps.

The plan right now is to start Cosmic Engineers on August 1st.

Fred | 1 comments Cosmic Engineers is very good, but doesn't get exceptionally good until towards the end. I've forgotten much of the details of the story, but remember it contains one of the classic Simakisms of large scale; stories that take place over long spans of time, settings not of towns (cities?), or worlds, but stars systems and even the whole universe itself. Doubtless this will be a recurring discussion here. I very much look forward to this club and to (re)reading this book I almost forgot was by CDS.
