Possibly the 18 Pine St series? The series was "created" by Walter Dean Myers but individual titles by different authors.
TAKING SIDES is one.
TAKING SIDES is one.
Maybe the Boyfriend Club series? It has a character named Roni and is about a group of HS friends.
#2 in the series is Roni's Dream Boy
the covers don't look particularly gritty, but I haven't read them, so idk.

No not the Boyfriend Club series but funnily enough I do remember reading some of these back in the day lol. I have been looking for this series too but could not remember enough details to post a query. :)
I'm pretty sure it was a photograph on the front. The main character with several of her friends maybe?
The Degrassi junior high books based on the Canadian TV series? I also recall Grange Hill books had photo covers but never read them. The former I do know had a different main character for each and were realistic.
No it wasn't the Degrassi or Grange Hill tie-in books. It was an original series which followed several different characters.
No it wasn't the Hamilton High series either.Wish I could remember more about this series but think it may be one that will elude me since my memory is so fuzzy on most of the details - the only real clear thing I can remember is the older brother who lost his legs but that really isn't a lot to go on!!
Maaaaybe, the Totally Hot series? https://www.goodreads.com/series/4964...You can find a feww of the summaries at Sweetheart Romance site
Raevyn wrote: "Maybe the Bluford High series (starting w/ Lost and Found)"No, not that series either. :)
That sweetheartromance site is a great resource! Maybe one of these: https://www.goodreads.com/series/6561... ?

Sorry, I haven't really been around - didn't mean to ignore your message! I haven't managed to track this one down so think it is past time to give up on it lol. I just can't remember enough details unfortunately...
Brin, if you're still interested in this book series, we're happy to keep your thread open in the Unsolved folder. Just bump it every few months (30+ days). If you're no longer interested, let us know.

There was at least about five books published and they were set in an inter-city school. Each book followed a different protagonist but the characters all knew each other and characters from earlier books popped up again in later books.
The one I remember most clearly was (I think) the second book. The narrator was a 16/17 year old girl - I think her name might have been Veronica/Roni or something similar (her best friend was the main character in the first book I think). She was quite tough (had piercings) and long dark curly hair. She ends up falling for her best friend's older brother who is in a wheelchair after an accident of some sort (I'm pretty sure he lost one leg below the knee and the other just above).
I can remember this series being quite a bit grittier than normal school series that were around about this time (i.e. the characters had sex, took drugs etc.) but unfortunately my memory is a little hazy about the rest of the details.
