What's up with THE WALKING DEAD? Have any of you read it? Who wrote it? Are there a bunch of books or what? I guess I may be interested in reading it if it's cool. Seems like I'm all ways hearing "the walking dead" somewhere.

Seems like I'm all ways hearing "..."I think it's based on the comic book series of the same name. I have a book collection of the first several comics, but haven't had a chance to get to it yet.
My grandson LOVES the show, and he's only 8.
The Walking Dead is a series of comic books by Robert Kirkman. They inspired the television show that is now on AMC.I'm currently reading the first collection of the graphic novels (comic books? I never know the proper name to call them). There are 8 of these collections with approx. 12 of the original comics in each. Unfortunately, these collections are in black and white, not color.
There are the collections or you can get the individual issues. Depends on how serious a comic book-er you are.
I volunteer in my library and I have seen a book based on The Walking Dead. The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor
I own two of the books but have yet to read them and have seen the first two seasons of the show as well as three episodes of season 3.However so far, my favourite adoption of The Walking Dead is the episodic game series.
Three times it had me crying my eyes out.
Michelle, I think I might look into that! Even though I'm not too crazy about the governor in the show (and haven't gotten to him in the novels yet).
Brittany, if you don't like the governor, then he's doing a good job acting the part. We're supposed to hate him and be suspicious of him. He's creepy, isn't he!
Not creepy - I lied; he's sorta creepy with his daughter and the fights - but definitely in the "asshole" category. I also don't like Rick, so that's not saying a whole lot about my judgement of character, lol.
I've barely seen any of the governor yet, but he does seem creepy. However, I don't like Rick any more. Maybe he'l improve as I see more of season 3 and then 4 but he seems a little too unhinged and ruthless for me.
Yes, Rick is going through quite a hard time. However I think that could make or break his character in the upcoming episodes. He'll either gain strength and come back to earth, so to speak, or he'll end up being replaced by other members of the group, who will also raise his kids for him.
I certainly would have in the beginning. He seemed to have it together, and he was, after all, in law enforcement. And I would have been so lost I'd have been thrilled to have someone in charge who seemed to know what they were doing, someone to feel safe around.
I'd probably go wherever I felt safe and Rick, even as unhinged he's been, has kept everyone safe for the most part. I'd rather be with company who has leadership skills than on my own.Unless there's some sketchiness I don't know about the governor yet, I'd probably leave Rick's group and live in Woodbury!
I'm all caught up on the show, but I take it there's something very bad going on there? Eep! Have you read the comic books, Brenda?
I don't know who I want to know more about: Michonne or the governor. My main reason for reading the comic books was so I could see if Michonne was as bad ass as everyone made her sound - I don't like her in the show... - but I haven't met her or the governor in the comics yet.
I don't think she's so mean in the show. I think she's very distrustful, and so is very independent and refuses to let anyone take that away from her.
I prefer some of the characters in the TWD game. The thing with the franchise is, any character could die at any time and I've heard the show doesn't always follow the comic.
I've never read the comics. But hey, I read a ton of Archie comics when I was young. Does that count? *grin*
I've only seen an episode here and there of the 1st season, and call me cynical, but I wasn't really impressed. It is creepy, I'll give it that much. And I'd be terrified if ever placed in a similar situation. But must every scene (practically) be centered around their survival and the killing of the undead. I found it very tedious and somewhat predictable!
I never realized how popular a topic this would become. I'm so glad to see everyone engaging in yet another lively discussion. Wish I knew a little more about the show so I could talk about this, but my 8 yr old grandson would be a much better candidate for this conversation than myself. Don't know if that's a good thing or not. I remember when I was eight and just wanted to play outside or with Barbee dolls. Times have changed. At least he doesn't play video games all day exclusively.

I happened to catch a marathon with my DVR one weekend, so I was able to watch from the beginning. I really like it, now that I understand more on the characters. I had seen an episode here and there, but it makes much more sense now.
Brenda! You made my day! EXCITING.Yeah, I caught the first season on On Demand after all my friends were talking about it and was hooked after that.
October seems like such a long time. I know it'll be here before we know it though. I have to say that I hope the governor meets his match finally ... do not like him at all.
And I just found this out there. "AMC will air a The Walking Dead marathon from Oct. 7 through Oct. 13, beginning with Season 1 straight through to the premiere of Season 4." So if you haven't seen these, or you've missed some, here's your next chance before the new season starts.

I have read all 18 graphic novels up to date and there is some pretty intense scenes in them. Just a heads up. :) Hopefully this comment doesn't sound snotty or anything, I just wanted to politely warn you that if you are familiar with the show and not the graphic novels that the show is a very toned-down version and I mean no disrespect! :)

Personally I love the series. There are over a hundred issues of the comic books, 18 graphic novels which contain roughly 10-15 issues and then there are 2 Compendiums which hold around 8 or so of the graphic novels. :) I stick with the graphic novels. Too many issues of comic books for my liking and the compendiums take too long. LOL The graphic novels are perfect for my liking! They are quite different than the show but both are great in their own ways. There are also two side novels written by the same author The Rise of the Governor and The Road to Woodbury. If you like gore and horror I think you will really enjoy them. There are a lot of scenarios that are intense and realistic in the sense that when society collapses these things DO really happen(or would if it happens LOL). I think they are more than a zombie story- they are about continuing to live in a world where zombies are a constant threat yes, but it is also about recreating society and trying desperately to adapt to the world you live in now while clinging to what life was before. I absolutely LOVE them, in case you can't tell....haha

I doubt that his mother would let him read any graphic novels with regards to the Walking Dead. Thanks for the heads up though :).

To those of you who like The Walking Dead and/or read the graphic novels... have any of y'all read the Newsflesh trilogy by Mira Grant?

You're welcome Cindy! And no problem Chuck! Hope you get the chance to check them out! Brittany- it is on my read list but I haven't gotten around to it yet- heard it is AWESOME! I think I have the first one on my kindle and just haven't gotten around to it yet! Have you read it?
I would like to read
It won the Stoker Award. I read the first two just to read this one at then was too zombied out to read it. I read Day by Day Armageddon and thought it was pretty good. I'd read the others.
Stephen King has kind of a zombie book called CELL that I liked.
Another one I liked was by Sophie Littlefield called AFTERTIME.
Brittany- I did download that book then! Haha! Just haven't gotten around to it yet! :) chuck- I love cell! Awesome book! Did you know they are making a movie of it starring John Cusack?? Love him! Lol
