All right, this is where we will be discussing the August Group Read for 2013, as soon as the book is decided. So, if you haven't already, please head on over to the polls, and choose which book you would like to read. :)

Okay, everybody! August is here, bringing with it our first group read! And seeing from the poll results, I'm thrilled with the book choice!
Which is....

The Blue Castle!

So if you need to, add this book to your to-read shelf. This folder is where all discussion of the book will take place! So, start reading this book, and don't hesitate to join the discussions about it, and tell us what you think! :)

Thanks for sharing the website! I tried to order it from my library, and can you believe it... They don't have it! Thanks for sharing! :)

Rebecca Rash (rebeccarash) | 11 comments How is everyone? I am on Chapter 6 and really like it. Made a connection between two people already though, and thought Valancy's change of character happened a little fast, but am finding her humorous.

Hannah Lofthus (hannahlofty) | 15 comments I'm glad you're liking it, Rebecca! I am going to start it very soon - I'm finishing up Persuasion at the minute.

Rebecca Rash (rebeccarash) | 11 comments I've always wanted to read, Persuasion! :)

Finished The Blue Castle two days ago. How come I've never read it before??? It hits my top favorite book ever. Review time.

Hannah Lofthus (hannahlofty) | 15 comments I'm on chapter 11 now in The Blue Castle. It's certainly interesting so far. I feel really bad for Valancy - her life stinks! That's awesome that you liked it so much. I'm excited to see how the story ends!

By the way - I definitely recommend Persuasion. It was wonderful!

I am ging to be starting The Blue Castle this week. I am in the middle of an amazing trilogy right now, so I have to finish that before I can start reading The Blue Castle. But I'm super excited to read it! :)

Hannah Lofthus (hannahlofty) | 15 comments I finished it! Woah, five stars from me for sure. I loved it! Can't wait to discuss it more on here and to hear what you all thought about different things.

Yay! I finished and loved it! Such a wonderful book! And thanks so much Rebecca for sharing that website link for the free online book. I found a bunch of Montgomery's books that I have been wanting to read but can't get on there! :)

Hannah Lofthus (hannahlofty) | 15 comments Great! It seems like everyone really liked The Blue Castle! I definitely did. I thought it would be fun if we answered a few questions about it! Feel free to add more questions as well :)

1. Who was your favorite character, and what made them special?

2. What four words would you use to describe this book?

3. What is a quote from this book that stood out to you?

4. What did you think about the ending?

Hannah Lofthus (hannahlofty) | 15 comments Here are my answers!

1. Who was your favorite character, and what made them special? My favorite would have to be Valancy. I didn't know what to think of her at first - but gradually she turned into a wonderful character. And she made me laugh!

2. What four words would you use to describe this book? Sweet, thought-provoking, funny, and poetic.

3. What is a quote from this book that stood out to you? That's hard, because there are so many great ones! One I really like is this:
“Isn't it better to have your heart broken than to have it wither up? Before it could be broken it must have felt something splendid. That would be worth the pain.”

4. What did you think about the ending? It took me by surprise, for sure. I thought it was so sweet! Everything worked out so well.

1. Who was your favorite character, and what made them special?
Definitely Valancy was my favorite; however, Barney was wonderful, too! :)

2. What four words would you use to describe this book?
Lovely, funny, captivating, and so Montgomery. :)

3. What is a quote from this book that stood out to you?
“The greatest happiness... is to sneeze when you want to." Love that. :)

4. What did you think about the ending?
Definitely wonderful! Surprising, but so happy how everything turned out. :)

Rebecca Rash (rebeccarash) | 11 comments Love all the answers! Here's mine:

1. Who was your favorite character, and what made them special?
My favorite character was Valancy, after she found out she was dying. She was very alive and witty. Barney was so intriguing, though, he is a close second.
2. What four words would you use to describe this book?
Captivating, witty, romantic and light.
3. What is a quote from this book that stood out to you?
“It was three o'clock in the morning – the wisest and most accursed hour of the clock. But sometimes it sets us free.”
4. What did you think about the ending?
I wasn't extremely surprised. Some of the book was predictable, but it didn't bother me in the slightest because it was so well written! :) Montgomery did wonderfully.

Hannah Lofthus (hannahlofty) | 15 comments Here's a question I've been wanting to ask you guys...did you guess all along that Barney was John Foster, or did it come as a surprise? I had my suspicions from pretty early on, but it completely took me by surprise that he ALSO turned out to be the millionaire medicine-man's son.

message 20: by Michaela (new)

Michaela (michaelarae1) | 69 comments Mod
I was surprised by both! :)

message 21: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Rash (rebeccarash) | 11 comments I knew he was John Foster by only a few chapters in. As to the millionaire medicine man's son - that was my surprise. :) I supposed him with no money.

message 22: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Lofthus (hannahlofty) | 15 comments Awesome! Oh, and wasn't Cissy's story so heartbreaking?

message 23: by Michaela (new)

Michaela (michaelarae1) | 69 comments Mod
Definitely! I felt so bad for her. :(
