When I worked in B&N our Teen Non-Fiction section was really pretty sad. We had a lot of "diaries" from anonymous teens, edited and published by Beatrice Sparks, such as It Happened to Nancy and Go Ask Alice, which was really popular. Memoirs and autobiographies were really big, like Bad Boy by Walter Dean Myers.
