Euthanasia refers to the practice of intentionally ending a life in order to relieve pain and suffering. (wikipedia)

What do you think of this? Is it right? Should a person be allowed to this?

Shannon | 244 comments There are different forms of euthanasia and some of them I find acceptable. I think if someone is suffering from a terminal disease, are in a lot or pain, why make them suffer? If they have the ability to make that decision and all other medical options have been tried, who has the right to tell that person no? We do it for our beloved pets so they don't suffer.

When it comes to involuntary euthanasia, I don't agree with that. Everyone has a right to live & if your can't make the decision for yourself then no one else should for you.

Even I agree with what you said in the first para, if someone decides that he/she is no longer able to live and wants to end his/her life, then no one should stop it. Regarding involuntary euthanasia, I think that is also right. To stop someone's pain, I don;t see any wrong in it. I know that it's the person's decision, but if the person cannot live and doesn;t have much left in life, then why not end his pain?

Saima Siddiqui (sensationalsaima) I agree with Shannon. If the person demands it, it's his/her choice. But if he/she doesn't, we have no right to make that choice for him/her.

Josi Basically I agree with Shannon.
Though I think it's hard to decide if involuntary euthansia is okay if the person can't make the decision for themself, for example when their illness is so bad that thry can't speak anymore or can't even think properly. Because then, the person might decide they want euthansia if they could, and then it would be unfair not to take their pain away from them and let them die. The problem is you can't know if they would've wanted that.
I think it would make sense for everyone to write something about whether or not you want euthansia or maybe even in which cases. I mean something similar to a testament that you write while you're still healthy and can think about things properly. I just think that would be a good solution if it worked, cause then it would be more or less fair for everyone.

I agree with you Josi. In involuntary euthanasia, if the sickness is too bad for the patient to speak and make a proper decision - it is proper to take their pain away and let them die.

But it would be much proper if the patient would be able to write down that he wanted to end his life, then there would be at least some proof that maybe yes, the patient wants death and wants to end his suffering.

I believe Euthanasia is wrong.

We euthanize our animals when they're sick and dying. Shouldn't we be doing the same for people who are sick, in great pain, and dying. Euthanasia at least gives the person some dignity.

I believe only doctors should perform this, not people in their own home...which has happened and people were arrested for it.

It's the humane thing to do, if you ask me.

I believe that if God gives us life He is the only one who can take it away. Euthanasia is just another form of murder, if you ask me.

message 10: by Aiman (new)

Aiman I personally don't think Euthanasia should be allowed, but on the other hand, it's quite unfair for a person to have to suffer so much pain and die in an excruciating manner. I don't have a strong opinion on the matter.

Linda Kelly Have spent many years nursing people at the end of their life and it haunts me how many have died in pain and fear and have begged me to end their suffering and have been powerless to do anything except comfort. So yes I strongly believe in euthanasia. This is My life and body so I should have the right to decide when it ends.

Amir (hawkmoonlight) | 23 comments When you mean ending "pain and suffering," do you mean actual physcial pain? Because some might relieve mental pain, from the onslaught of verbal abuse.

message 13: by Jojobean (new)

Jojobean Absolutely. No one should have to be made to suffer and be in pain. As long as it's the ill person's choice I'm all for it.

Julia (juliace) Unless and until you've been in a situation with someone suffering you don't know what your opinion is. You can say "no, it should be illegal" now but change your mind later if you find yourself face to face with someone w/ a terminal disease.
I've seen a loved one suffer from terminal intestinal cancer and for about 3 months 24/7 he was in pain; so much so that he was begging to die sooner rather than later just so the pain would end. If there had been a "Right To Die" or "Assisted Suicide" law in place, I would have helped to end his suffering.
