Mistress of the Art of Death
question
What would you consider the greatest flaws of the series?

Personally, I think these books make for an enjoyable read, so long as you don't take them too seriously from a historical accuracy angle.
I wondered what other 'flaws' of the series people might pick out... :)
(No offence, of course, intended to the late author - I suppose I'm just quite critical by nature!)

The fact that our author has passed away and now we will never know if they make to to England or recover or get pardoned or get married or..... such a huge loss as these were very entertaining books!
Adelia is just a little too modern in her attitudes but that didn't stop me enjoying the series.
I was unaware of Ms. Franklin's death and so that does explain the cliffhanger ending. RIP Ariana and thank you for the good read.

Well I don't consider it a flaw per say but the last book in the series ends on a cliffhanger and the author seems to have very sadly passed away before the next books release.
I was very sad to hear of Ariana Franklin's death but I think her daughter has undertaken to finish the series. I enjoyed all of her books, flaws and all.
Ms. Franklin passes away, I am really sorry to hear this. I loved this series and wondered why a new book had not appeared.
I've read the first two and totally enjoyed them. But I agree with the comment about our heroine's too modern way of thinking.
As others have said, the flaw is that it is over when it was so clearly going somewhere wonderful. I wish she had made more of her dog characters, especially the Lurcher, who I'm sure was going to play a pivotal role in book five. I have a dog w/ Lurcher characteristics, and when I googled their history, I was enchanted.
I am so glad to know the series will continue. I love getting my history this way, and her setting and character appear to be an accurate accounting of this extraordinary, too short period of history that no one knows about.
I think that her back story, raised in a more intellectual community and educated, was meant to help explain Adelia's more modern attitudes.
Mistress of the Art of Death (Bantam (UK)) (Paperback) - CommonI've only read the first book (Mistress of the Art of Death), and thoroughly enjoyed it to the point of re-reading it as soon as I finished, and can honestly say I think the only flaw is that the story was over just a little too soon...I was hoping for at least another short little chapter after the murder business was wrapped up, of Adelia, Gyltha, Mansur, Prior Geoffrey, and Rowley (and perhaps Ulf) all sharing a meal or enjoying a quiet little party together as a kind of send-off for the reader. But alas, we got what Ms Franklin gave us and I'm still happy with how it ended.
