Frank Spinney | 44 comments Hi all, my name is Frank and I love a good horror story. More then anything I love a good supernatural ghost type story. I have never gotten into the whole paranormal romance type stories and don't usually lean toward werewolves, vampire and zombie (though I have read many great books in these areas). I love Bag of Bones by Stephen King, Ghost Story by Peter Straub, The Supernaturals by David Golemon, or the Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. Looking for recommendations of the best ghost /.supernatural novels. I am reading Summer of Night by Dan Simmons right now. Please no spoilers.

If you are looking for a spine tingling, jaw dropping scary story that is based on a very real legend then look no further than The Legend of Souls Chapel. This spellbinding book will leave you questioning everything you thought you knew about good, evil and family. Check out the television interview about the book on my website. Here is a link:

Read it if you dare!

Steven Dowell (stevendowell) | 12 comments I think you might like Katheryn Ragle's book The Trinket Box. The Trinket Box It is more mystery than horror, but it does imply there are supernatural elements at work.

message 5: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Turner (tashaturner) Frank you might want to check out some of Scott Nicholson and J.R. Rain both write horror and I believe some ghost stories... I know Scott does.

message 6: by Steven (new)

Steven Dowell (stevendowell) | 12 comments Kell, you are not correct about that. "The Trinket Box" is published by Maple Hill Publishing. Here is a link to their site. They are a small press and authors do not pay for their services. I know because my book The Legend of Souls Chapel is also published by them.

message 7: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Turner (tashaturner) Scott is self-published. I know at least one of his books The Home has been optioned for a movie.

Both Rain and Nicholson are among the highest selling authors in their genre among both trad & indie authors. I believe both sell over 100,000 books a year when I last saw numbers.

Ellen Datlow refers to Scott in one of her more recent horror anthologies. I can't remember which one off hand as I was reading introductions in about 15 of her books at the same time for a project I was working on.

'In the Devil's Own Words' by Elizabeth Wixley combines all the elements you are looking for.

Robert | 8 comments The Windsome Tree by Eileen Albrizio is one the greatest ghost stories I've read in ages. It's scary but it's not monsters jumpoing out at you scary. It's the kind of scary that creeps into you. The characters are so real, I felt I new them. And the writing is absolutely beautiful! The Windsome Tree: A Ghost Story

N.A. Dwyer | 5 comments I don't know if your still looking but I have a creepy supernatural/ghost story for you! My book Lawrenceville is on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Lawrenceville-...

message 15: by Muditha (new)

Muditha Warnasuriya | 9 comments I love writing horror. I recently published a horror fiction novel. Even when I write suspense I like to include a supernatural element in it just to point out to the reader that there is a realm that we cannot see and how it influences the world of the living. The Villa

message 16: by Rick (new)

Rick Bachman | 10 comments The Room in the Tower by E.F. Benson. Actually scary!

message 17: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Dongen | 2 comments The Mothman Prophecies by John Keel and the Amityville Horror by Jay Anson. Both are "based on true stories" and presented as a nonfiction accounts of real supernatural activity.

I doubt either are actually true, but they're super interesting and make for creepy horror reading.

My book, Tales from the Eerie Canal, will be out next month on Amazon. An eclectic collection of twenty-two stories infested with a gaggle of goosebumps and delightfully creepy twists. A Twilght Zone of fanatsy, horror, and sci-fi. "Fear the shadows. Enjoy the ride. Leave the lights on."

Michael | 13 comments Best ghost story I've ever read is Julia.

message 20: by Terri (new)

Terri Reid | 1 comments Now that Halloween is over and things are a little calmer in my life - I'd love to respond to your post. I write paranormal mysteries - but some of my favorite stories are Ghost by Noel Hynd, The Bridgeton Park Cemetery by Ophelia Julien, and the true ghost stories by Kathi Kresol. I tell ghost stories nearly every week on my blog - terrireid.com - they're called Freaky Friday. Best of luck finding some good stories.
