I just started getting into some chick lit. What are some of your favorites? Maybe a top five list?

I haven't read much chick lit. But I've heard that the Sloppy Firsts series is good as well as Jennifer Weiner.
The closest thing to chick lit I've ever read is the Sookie Stackhouse series. Which I'm recommending to everyone because I am in the middle of the series and loving it!
Oh my gosh Jamie...I LOVE!!!!! the Sloppy Firsts series. They're by Megan McCafferty and I highly recommend them! They're just simple and fun! I read a ton of chick lit, especially during the summer. Bree- if you look at my books most everything under "summer reads" are chick lit.I enjoyed Emily Giffin. She wrote the Something Borrowed; Something Blue; Baby Proof. Baby Proof was not my favorite. Also anything by Jennifer Weiner is good. I'll try to think of some other ones. I really, really love chick lit during the summer. It's easy and fun! Haha.
My favourite chick-lits would be Kiss Chaseand French Relations by the wonderful Fiona Walker I also really enjoy the shopaholic series and the other stand alone books like Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella. (if you have seen the shopaholic movie, the book is way better)
Em....I love pretty much everything that Marian Keyes has written, especially Rachel's Holiday. I also love In Her Shoes by Jennifer Weiner. Does 'The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants' books by Ann Brashares count as chick-lit? Love those books...
OH! And of course...Nicholas Sparks has a lot of chick lit! I loved the Traveling Pants books as well!
My favorite chick-lit of all time is the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella. If you're into shopping you will definitely relate....
I'm with you, Roisu, I love anything by Marian Keyes.. Her characters are especially complex for it to be chic lit. My favorite by her is Anybody Out There?. I also like how some of her books all connect with the Walsh sisters
My favorite chic lit has to be Kissed By An Angel series by Elizabeth Chandler, The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants books by Ann Brashares, and What My Mother Doesn't Know/ What My Girlfriend Doesn't Know by Sonya Sones
I haven't heard of the Sonya Sones one but I looked it up and it sounds really interesting! Might have to get it!
I like anything by Meg Cabot, Jennifer Weiner, Emily Giffin and the sloppy first series is really good. Also Sarah Dessen writes good books but I don't know if that's considered chick lit or just young adult.
Any new chick lit that you have been reading? I haven't been reading as much lately. What's good these days?
I just finished Emily Giffin's newest book, Heart of the Matter. I actually liked it a lot, though it certainly stirred up some social critique (for me). I would definitely recommend it!
I hope you enjoy it! Her books aren't my favorites (in a general sense) but they are my favorite chick lit books.
Yeah, I don't read much chick lit but I figured I need a good chick lit book every once in a while!
I don't read much chick lit at all... I read the 'Sloppy Firsts' books as a young adult, but I never got into many others...EXCEPT Emily Giffin. I very much enjoy her work. Something Borrowed, her first book, is still my favorite thus far... I remember I was visiting my grandmother and forgot to bring a book, and just happened to see it at Costco and decided to give it a try. Wonderful decision! Jamie, since you have the book, I encourage you to read it soon! I can remember that the first time I read it, I literally could not put it down. When it was over, I just wanted to read it all over again!
Jess: I also just finished Heart of the Matter. I liked it, too :)
Bottom line, some of her works are better than others (of course), but Giffin is always the 'chick lit' author I recommend to others.

I definitely agree—"Giffin is always the 'chick lit' author I recommend to others." Spot on, abbey sophia! I used to love Megan McCafferty's Jessica Darling series. I used to relate to Jessica so much, and there seemed to be such strange overlapping instances in our lives (except Marcus—no Marcus or equivalent for me, though I did have some boy issues to say the least). I liked only the first two books; I thought the last three books did not fit the original books at all.
I think books by Kristin Hannah count as chick-lit. I've read "Between Sisters" and "On Mystic Lake". Both are good.
Jess: Actually, maybe I haven't read all of Jessica Darling series... I think I lost interest after the third (maybe because of the disconnect?). It seems like it was so long ago. I suppose I'll have to reread them to refresh my memory. I love rereading good books... but sometimes I find myself making making excuses to reread (maybe because so many people give me strange looks when I say I've read a certain book multiple times... I'm sure folks in this community can relate).Jen: You have sufficiently blown my mind. I did a quick IMDB search and found the cast info... I think Ginnifer Goodwin is perfect for Rachel. I adore her! I am usually very picky about what movies I will see in the theater ($12, give me a break), but I don't think I'll have to think twice about this one :) Glad they're planning to make Blue, too... more John Krasinski!
I've only read a few of her books, but I really like Jill Mansell. An Offer You Can't Refuse was pretty good!
When I was in high school, I read all of the Sarah Dessen novels. She's definitely a YA author, but I think her stories are still relevant for college-aged girls. She is probably my favorite YA author out there. My favorites are The Truth About Forever and Someone like You.Something Borrowed sounds pretty good! I may just have to go buy it now!
I read chick-lit when I'm between hard novels and need something light and fluffy and something to make me feel good after I finish it. So although it's not my favorite genre, I do tend to read a good deal of them. I agree with Anika, I love Sarah Dessen novels, despite her being young adult. Dessen's really good about letting the readers get to know her characters, concentrating more on their stories and personalities, rather than the actual romance part of it.
I just recently found Nora Robert's bride quartet series, which is cute and fluffy. I was expecting a lot more mush, and was surprised when the characters sounded real. (I figured they'd be along the lines of Nicholas Sparks, good grammar, perfect manners, no cussing each other out, etc)
I have never read Emily Griffin, but from what you guys have said, I'll have to give her books a try, she sounds really good.
I love chick-lit because they are so fun and easy to read. You guys should try Bet Me or anything by Jennifer Crusie. Sophie Kinsella has some really funny books like Can You Keep a Secret?, The Undomestic Goddess, or Twenties Girl: A Novel.
