Has anyone else read that nice collection of Joyce's Critical Writings, published by Viking? It has some great essays in it, and has a piece of prose written by Joyce when he was still in school. My favorite might be his essay on Ibsen.

If you want to write posts on critical writings by scholars ON Joyce, post them in the folder that the work discusses (for example, if you want to post something on Stuart Gilbert's study of Ulysses, post it under Ulysses).

Cheers!

it's a great read, especially if you want to fine tune your knowledge of joyce's aesthetics. he deconstructs a lot of aspects of art in those essays, you get a feel for how he thinks and who his influences are...i think it's a most instructive read, especially if you want to go the whole nine yards and eventually read all of the novels.

Davis (davismattek) | 47 comments Oh, I plan on it. I'm done with Portrait and halfway through Dubliners. I'm readying Ulysses this summer too.

you go, davis! - please post any thoughts or responses, however minute as you work your way through those texts. i think i'm going to add portrait to my summer reading list - it's time i re-read that one.
