Perfect for school season, we'll be reading "The Love Affairs of Nathaniel P" throughout August. Activities for that book will officially begin after our conversation with Jess Walter on August 7.

About "The Love Affairs of Nathaniel P"
It’s a wickedly funny, cringingly insightful look at contemporary dating and mating habits among young sophisticates. --Ron Charles

Seeley James (seeleyjames) Two months later and no discussion. That's the trouble with literary, no one reads it. Maybe we should pick something popular next time.

Peace, Seeley

Patricia Post (goodreadscomhawley) | 2 comments Has anyone heard of a new book by Diane Francis, "Merger of The Century." It's about the U.S. and Canada becoming one country. Francis is a dual citizen herself - born in the the U.S., now a business journalist in Canada. I saw her interviewed - it sounds like a very interesting read. It's an experimental thought, worthy of consideration. All our natural resources would be yours, in exchange for defending our borders and helping us develop the north. Not bad, eh?

Debra Hale-Shelton (debbye) | 3 comments I just joined the group and have not read Nathaniel P but have been considering it. Did people enjoy it? Would it be a good selection for an audiobook or not? .

Debra Hale-Shelton (debbye) | 3 comments I am now reading The Color Master by Aimee Bender. The collection of short stories is excellent and examines human nature, albeit the more unusual examples of it. It might make a good selection someday. Bender is also the author of The Peculiar Sadness of Lemon Cake, a novel.

Deb wrote: "I just joined the group and have not read Nathaniel P but have been considering it. Did people enjoy it? Would it be a good selection for an audiobook or not? ." I thought it was very smart, very witty. (So did my 20-something daughter in New York.)

Teresa I have "The Love Affairs of Nathaniel P" on request at my library, but it hasn't come in yet. I would love to see more activity in this group. Would it be possible to offer two reading selections each month - a primary and an alternate? Some books are easier to obtain on loan than others. Thanks in advance for your consideration in this!

I agree with Teresa, the group seems to be less active and that may be remedied by 2 selections.

Or, could we set up folders on the 2013 WP top 10 fiction/non fiction books or the 50 notables? Then members could discuss the books we have read on these lists during the past year.
