Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2569 comments This is the official spot to chat about Christine Feehan's Dark series, which is a lot of other series merged together.

Dark Prince is one of our reads for August 2013.

If this is your first time reading Feehan's work, what do you think? Or if you've read other works from her, how does it compare?

PepperP0t aargh...another one i'm anxious to get off my tbr! I've read the first two so pop in for chat and join in for book 3 maybe.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I'm not a big fan of the series because of the redundancy after awhile. However, the first book Dark Prince was a lot of fun. It's not perfect but it's enjoyable and I've probably read it at least three times over the years. Love Raven's character too. If anyone else is reading it, curious what you think.

Here was my review on it:

Sarah (sarahlml) I've read Dark Prince and loved it. I have yet to read anymore of the series, although I'd love to.

I've read through most of the books and they become really hit or miss. Sometimes the repetitiveness within the book (and redundancy from book to book) is too much.

The sex is cookie cutter pretty much from book to book but for the first couple of books it was great. I loved the 2nd book, then really didn't like the 3rd. The 3rd book was just too much push and pull, back and forth, acceptance then not between the main characters. It just bored me silly after the first 1/2 of the book.

I flip-flop throughout the series and usually ignore or read through the repetitiveness pretty quickly. I also skim right over any Carpathian speech or word as it is totally unnecessary and boring. I think that many of the book could be weeded down to novellas and would do so much better in a duology. Still the world is a great world and the characters frequently are compelling.

Since this was a BOTM /SOTM I picked up the next one I hadn't read, Dark Demon. I really like the two characters and how they are learning one another but it is starting to grate to hear Natalya saying 'Vikirnoff wants a June Clever' once more, I might scream. Still, their changing for one another is sweet. Natalya is a strong female, kissass, character and I usually like that in these books, especially if they hold on to their personality instead of becoming a doormat. Yes, that happens in some of the books. I don't think I'm going love this one but I will probably like it.

I only can take one or two of these in a row as the redundancy does grate after a couple. Luckily it helps you to understand who is who again, if you put it down for a year, which I normally do. I missed 4 in the middle and the last one "Dark Storm", so 5 to go. My Favorites were Desire, Magic, Challenge, Legend, Symphony, and Slayer (five stars). The ones I either disliked or thought only OK (1 or 2 stars), Gold, Melody, Destiny, Secret and Peril. So my balance overall in the series is slightly on the good side. The others I gave 3 or 4 to.

I have really liked all the novellas that are associated with the series a lot. Dark Dream, Dark Descent, and Dark Hunger. Wish she would write more of those about the great side characters.

Overall the series is good not great IMO. It was one of my first paranormal romance books, so I might be slightly biased. Still, I don't recommend this series outright without warnings of its shortcomings. And then only to die hard PNR fans, emphasis on the romance, emotion.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2569 comments Hmmmm, this sounds like just average cookie cutter PNR. Me no likey.
