Because most people want privacy? 50 years ago, Americans didnt have to worry about something they said on a telephone. Its disturbing to the general population that they do, and its not right.

Yeah I typed just the title of the book into google and it started coming up with self help books called how to love yourself. Eventually I found an article on it. I feel sorry for her. Being targeted with abuse like that. Its tough to know what to do in those situations apart from report it bu then it may take a while for those reports to become action.

That is incredible. To achieve what they did. I'm going to have to recommend this as a biology coursework to someone at my school. I did mine. Also using T cells. They are incredible things.

I think if your job does not involve science or engineering it is not impossible that you will never need to use math beyond elementary school level in your life. However learning subjects like algebra or geometry are also invaluable opportunities to develop students' imagination & critical thinking skills, and those skills, unlike theorems or algorithms taught in math classes, are of great importance for almost every career path & also for making informed decisions as a citizen. So I think advanced math should stay mandatory even though many ppl will never touch it after they graduate. OTOH there could be some reforms on what is taught in math classes & how to teach them. A recent education reform in China has put logic into high school math curriculum while cutting some less important traditional topics & I know some logicians here are also arguing for something similar.

Child marriage is unfortunately still supported by a few Islamic scholars today e.g. http://islamqa.info/en/146882 . It is not something exclusively happening in a few countries/regions/cultures either. I know someone whose cousin was illegally pressured into marriage as a young teen in some rural area in south China a few years ago. & it was awful according to her.

My accent varies. Sometimes I go American. Others I can go very Welsh. But mainly my accent is Bristoloian or somerset heavy (Both areas of England Britain so I guess it could be British)

My sister's friend got punched in the face for being an Indian, from an Aussie lady, she said 'go the f*** back to your own country'. @Lia....About the review policy; I believe there'd not be any 'shackling' moderation. Speaking your heart shouldn't have any boundaries at all. There are reviews that can hurt me a great deal (think about it mates). I'd be able to comment about them in an opposing manner; end of the day it's not just your or any others' opinion that stands on a proud pedestal. It'd be a factual represent of the whole. It's not an ego clash but it's the justification of the brainstorming closure. I can't appreciate the other way around, including 'oh no you're right' gobbledygook satisfaction. Bottom line, These policies may prevent me (and buncha others) from writing any reviews at all...'nuff said..

90% of the GR users aren't professional reviewers (or is it 78%? pardon my French! lol) they seek GR reviews for some raw, honest thoughts about their book(s). They don't really mind occasional bashing..Maybe some do; so GR is intending to maintain a clean slate when it comes to authors' filing lawsuits out of butthurt..but I've never heard any author suing the GR and reviewers simultaneously; would be kinda funny as hell, will deffo be a headline for FOX/Onion News at some point lol

Movies: "Rottentomatoes"; IMDb's little cousin full of grumpy reviewers. I check the movie which gets less than 10-20% in there; pick it up and watch it knowing that it'll be hella entertaining. They bash it pound-for-pound till the ordinary movie watchers like me believe that the movie, the movie makers and cast are the biggest mistakes ever hailed on earth. They never consider that there are millions of people who could find them fun filled those go best with munchies. After your hectic job slavery, you don't pick up a movie where the protagonists talk and take shit for 90 minutes about life and death in an modern-artistic-philosophical manner...you'd rather prefer talking to a clam and enjoy it! Point being; "When THEY do it, it's professional and respected...and when ordinary cats do it......"

We could read books and get epic recommendations way before GR was invented; it's just an easy way to create shelfs and keep track of what you('re) read(ing); 'challenges' are a plus...TBH I barely read any reviews because of the TL;DR and extreme (unnecessary) nitpicking. It's not even advisable to read the description let alone reviews before reading a book. I have felt most reviewers are more like 'like hunters/gatherers' and simply 'braggers of their newly invented erudite perspectives'. Anything more to that? When you run out of words, you can use pictures; Eureka! shows how funny you're! We all see funny pictures on facebook/random sites all the time. But if you add a (not so) funny pic to the review of a serious novel; is it really funny and is it about the book?! Mostly, top reviews are more 'bashful' than the bottom ones...etc etc...we could talk-talk all day long about it; but it'll be a futile attempt of reasoning! :)

The suing reviewers and filing lawsuits was meant to be more funny though (and less satirical); our scholars of jurisprudence can't even prosecute a violent rapist properly. So don't think it even qualifies as a cyber crime to express your opinion against books and authors, even in the most bashful way.
