Pam (bookworm500) | 10 comments I'm looking for new authors who write adult books that can be read all the way through. (Meaning no f bombs or graphic sex). I prefer action or suspense, which makes it doubly hard to find.

Joan (jomarcho1) | 37 comments I'm with you. I will be waiting to see if you get any responses.

message 3: by Mary (new)

Mary | 61 comments I recall The Hunt for Red October by Tom Clancy being clean.

Traci Hunter Abramson writes action/suspense novels that are clean as well. She's LDS (Mormon), so you get some references to that faith in her books, but if you don't mind that, they are pretty good.

Anne Perry is another good author. She's British.

Mary Stewart and Helen MacInness wrote suspense novels during their careers from the 1940s to the 1980s. All clean and a good read.

Christopher Holcroft has a series of action novels with a teenaged protagonist. The first one is "Only the Brave Dare".

And Clare Cannon, who is a fan of clean reading, has a web site that reviews recommended mystery and thriller books. There are 80 titles listed there with reviews. Reading through those will give you some good suggestions too. http://www.goodreadingguide.com/Depar...

Hope this gets you off to a good start.

Mary | 26 comments Pam,
My book, Promise Keeper is a "clean reads" romantic suspense. It has a few cuss words, no F bombs and no graphic sex. I think you will find it suspenseful.
Mary Fremont Schoenecker

message 5: by Joan (new)

Joan (jomarcho1) | 37 comments Mary where can I get it? Amazon has lots of Promise Keeper books but I don't see yours.

message 6: by Mary (new)

Mary | 26 comments It is Book 3 in The "Maine Shore Chronicles" series. The title is PROMISE KEEPER. You shouldn't have to put in the series name, but I am the author, Mary Fremont Schoenecker and last time I looked, there was "one copy left, more expected in Amazon book store. It is hard cover, first edition, but hopefully by Sept. I may be putting it on Kindle as an ebook

message 7: by Pam (new)

Pam (bookworm500) | 10 comments Thank you Mary. I'm excited to read your series. I'll stay looking for it today.
Thank you MaryBliss as well. I will be checking o out each of those authors.
FYI: I am LDS. I didn't really introduce myself. I am a " stay at home grandma" but I have a salon in my home where I work 2 days a week.
Thanks again for your suggestions
Pam

message 8: by Mary (new)

Mary | 26 comments I am a Grandmom & a Great Grandmom, also, Pam.I appreciate your interest in my series and hope you will enjoy them. I would suggest the first book of the series to start. It is Finding Fiona. It is a sweet romance, which has suspense and angst plot twists.I would love to know your reaction or even a review if possible.Any of the 3 books could be read as stand alone, but you may be happier stating at the beginning.Happy reading.
Mary

message 9: by Lncropper (new)

Lncropper (grandma17) | 5 comments Be careful about Anne Perry. I read several of hers years ago, and although there is no sex, the murders are horribly violent. There is especially a lot of violence against women. It is possible that in recent years she has toned them down a bit, but I got so I didn't want to read any more of hers.

message 10: by Mary (new)

Mary | 61 comments Good point, Lncropper.

message 11: by Pam (new)

Pam (bookworm500) | 10 comments Thanks for that info Lncropper. that's another thing I hate to read. Graphic violence. Especially against women or children.

message 12: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amandalyn) | 114 comments Have you tried Mindy Starns Clark?

message 13: by Pam (new)

Pam (bookworm500) | 10 comments No. Is she good? My husband enjoy if?

message 14: by Pam (new)

Pam (bookworm500) | 10 comments Meaning it's not cheesy, girly stuff. Lol

message 15: by CarolynB (new)

CarolynB (carolynlb) | 12 comments Mindy Starns Clark is one of my favorite authors. Her books are not "cheesy". My husband reads her, but he reads most anything that's clean--it's hard to keep him in books because he reads so fast.

message 16: by Pam (new)

Pam (bookworm500) | 10 comments So I checked out Claire Cannon's "goodreading" guide. problem is, very few of the reviews tell you about language or graphic content. just whether or not it'sa good book. How do I learn more? I'm familiar with some of the authors. Some are trustworthy, some are not

message 17: by Cheri (new)

Cheri (sharebear) | 13 comments There is a site that rates content, not sure if it rates language or not. www.likesbooks.com. I love this site, I have chosen not to read a book before after checking this site.

message 18: by Abigail (new)

Abigail (handmaiden) | 199 comments Pam, here is another site that lists the content of the various books it reviews: http://www.compassbookratings.com/

message 19: by Mary (new)

Mary | 61 comments Below are instructions for how to search Claire's web site while screening out the titles that she does not recommend. That might be a good way to start weeding out the objectionable and narrowing down the list before you try to find specific titles in likesbooks or compassbookratings. It will save you some time.

"As some books may contain elements that are both in line with and contrary to these ideals, "we have lesser recommendation categories such as ‘acceptable’ or ‘conditionally recommended’, with explanations of the particular elements meriting these tags in each review. Unclassified books are those that have not been selected as a recommendation for a particular type of reader, and the reviews will offer considerations regarding the content and themes to help readers decide whether or not they want to read a particular book. These books will not appear in the recommendation departments on the left hand side, but they will appear when searched for by title or theme in the search bar at the top, if the Recommended only box is left unticked."

So that might help. Or, even easier, you can use the sites that Cheri and Abigail listed to screen the titles you find on Claire's site.

Vickie Britton | 46 comments My sister Loretta Jackson and I write mysteries, romantic suspense and thrillers. Our books are heavy on the mystery and while there might be some violence (kept to a minimum by today's standards), or a very mild cuss word, you'll never find an f-bomb or a graphic sex scene. We don't believe in using "shock value" to sell. As an example our book "Stone of Vengeance" was accepted as a "clean read" through the Thorndike Large Print program. So if you like a book heavy on the mystery or intrigue but light on the sex,(romance yes, graphic sex scenes, no) please give our books a try. While we don't put religion in our books, we attempt to make our heroes and heroines good role models, which we feel are much needed in literature today. We write the Ardis Cole Mystery Series (The Curse of Senmut) and the
Jeff McQuede series (Murder in Black and White). We also write romantic suspense such as The Vanished Lady. Here are links to the first books in our two main series. So if you're interested in mysteries that actually focus on the mystery, I'm hoping some of you will give our books a try and let us know what you think.

Pam (bookworm500) | 10 comments Wow. Thanks for all the good recommendations. I spent quite awhile at the library this week checking out all the suggestions. I can't wait to start reading. Mary, our library doesn't carry your books. Are they only available online? I thought I'd ask our library to get them if they're available.
Vicky, I'll be looking for yours next. Are they available at libraries or only online?

message 22: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amandalyn) | 114 comments Pam: she is good but I'm not sure how to answer about your husband. Most of her protagonists are women and there is usually a romance within the story. There is also action, suspense and mystery. I can't really see my husband reading her; he gravitates towards sci-fy type stuff. I hope that helps!

message 23: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amandalyn) | 114 comments By the way, that last comment was a follow up about Mindy Starns Clark.
Also, not quite as squeaky clean as Mindy's books, but really good: have you tried Kate Morton? I really enjoy hers - mysterious but I wouldn't say action packed. more like a puzzle that slowly unravels.

The clean indie reads group is having a sale Sept 18-25. Many genres are reprsented as well as age groups. Here is the link to their sale. http://rebekahlynbooks.com/book-sale
Prices range from free to .99

message 25: by Vickie (new)

Vickie Britton | 46 comments They are available in many libraries. Especially the hardbacks that were published by Avalon. We're working on getting some of our newer titles in but right now it's harder for writers to sell to libraries because of all the cutbacks.

message 26: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn McC | 8 comments Noah Boyd has two books, The Bricklayer, and Agent X, (I believe those are the correct titles) that were great adventure stories and very clean. Highly recommended if you haven't read them. Sadly, he has passed away so there won't be more.

message 27: by Samm (new)

Samm (ashmanrose) I just read my first Jenni James. She's mostly for young adult, but if you like clean (and they are really clean) She's a good one to pick up. She's got fairy-tales and a series based on Jane Austen's books. Might be a little corny, but it's still good... I like to think of her books like Hallmark movies.

message 28: by Angela (new)

Angela (angacocks) | 2 comments I've read a couple of good books from new Independent authors: Kierstin Marquet, and Bev Stout. I know that they've both got a second book in their series coming out in the summer of 2014.

message 29: by W.A. (new)

W.A. | 13 comments Claire M. Poulson has written a book called Don't Cry Wolf, I believe. It's clean and tame, but entertaining. For anyone who enjoys fiction with some suspense and a little romance, I'd recommend it.

Karen Mcquestion is a Clean Author

Edgewood (Edgewood, #1) by Karen McQuestion Wanderlust (Edgewood, #2) by Karen McQuestion Absolution (Edgewood, #3) by Karen McQuestion

message 31: by W.A. (new)

W.A. | 13 comments Another good author is S.A. Thorup, who is also a friend of mine. She strives to keep any violence in her books under a certain limit, and she doesn't go into graphic or unnecessary detail. You'll never find sexual themes or vulgar language in her books, either.

message 33: by Dorcas (new)

message 36: by Coralknitz (new)

Coralknitz | 8 comments Fannie flag uses profanity

message 37: by Gabriella (new)

Gabriella (stardust_126) | 131 comments Is it a lot of swear words or just a few per each book? I can handle it if it's no more than 3 times in a book

message 38: by Kistopher (new)

Kistopher Langdon | 1 comments An emerging author, Renata Levy writing books under her pen-name 'Cattleya', is someone you should look out for. Her latest book, 'The Black Shade of White' is the first in a three-part trilogy with her second book coming out in 2021. A must read, in my opinion.

Ann♥♪♪♪♪ (musicisablessing) | 6 comments I'm always looking for good, clean young adult reads for me and a sib of mine, and also clean books for my sib, our mom and dad - we enjoy mystery, action, adventure, suspense, and western. Thank you for the suggestions in this group. :)

Hi, I'm Yaacov Connors, and have just published my second clean suspense novel. This novel is a sequel to White Hot Diamonds which mostly sold out. It is based on an x police detective that found his religion and became a Rabbi. There is no real religious speak in the novel that would be unacceptable to Christians. I hope you might like to read it. It's on Kindle and also available in paperback:
Link to Letters of Fire

Moshe Friedman, a former police detective, is now the rabbi of a large synagogue in New York City. When Pinchas Bergman, a close friend and congregant, suddenly shows up at midnight, the rabbi’s life is turned upside down. He’s forced to unpack his gun to protect his family and save his friend.
A trio of desperate thieves must retrieve the diamonds they stole from their mobster boss before he discovers the theft. When they threaten the rabbi, detective Red Kelly pulls all stops to help his former partner.
Devotion to G-d and the power of prayer combine with breathtaking suspense, heart-stopping action, and plot twists that keep the reader enthralled from beginning to end.

message 45: by Jody (new)

Jody Cleven | 16 comments Jody ClevenAnn-I'm an author of clean books for ages 9-14. My first book, A Ripple in Maggie Pond (2019) is packed with drama and really neat for that "avid reader" kid (the characters LOVE books)!

My second book (just released last week!), Ribbon on the Willow is a great story about four friends that experience tons of exciting events.

It is my mission to write clean books, so your parents will be thrilled with these, and you'll like them too! There are no swear words in A Ripple in Maggie Pond, and just one (mild) in Ribbon on the Willow. It kinda has to be there. Read it and you'll see!

My author's website is jodycleven.com. Check it out and my blog is there too. My author's address is given on the website. If you write, I promise to write back! The fun part about that (spoiler here) is that the girls in my first book write to an author and great things happen! I hope you give them a try! Both available on Amazon. Enjoy! -Jody
