I know we have some medieval writers/authors in this group, so I thought some of you might be interested. I just published a short medieval resource book called Name Your Medieval Character: Medieval Christian Names. It is a compilation of my 30-plus years of research into medieval names and contains over 800 female names (including variations) and 1500 male names (including variations), all used by people who lived in the 12th and 13th centuries. It's available on both Amazon and Smashwords for only 99 cents! Hope some of you might find it helpful. :-)

Abigail (handmaiden) | 72 comments Speaking as a reader and name history buff, I'm so glad to hear that you take the time to research historically accurate names, Joyce. It's always so jarring to me to encounter anachronistic names in historical novels. It pulls me out of the story and gets me peeved at the author, even if I otherwise like the book.

I feel the same way, Abigail, which is why I originally started researching medieval names.
