Drac leaned over the railing from where his quarters looked down upon the ship. He was watching the horizon, eventually planning on meeting it, so he could see where the sun goes and the moon rises, and be with them, forever in the embrace of their majesty. It was a quaint dream, but he felt it gave him something to think about.
Raven stretched and fought back a yawn as she walked up on deck. She rubbed her eye tiredly and saw Drac leaning on the railing. She walked up behind him almost silently. "Don't lean too far, you'll fall in and then I'll have to fish you out." She said.
Drac shrugged and reached out for a second, lost in his thoughts about the home of those two orbs that light the sky. His hand clenched into a fist, like he was trying to grab the horizon, to take it and see what it was like.
She watched him for a moment then leaned against the rail next to him. It early and the sun was just beginning to rise. There weren't many of their crew up yet save the few who had to stay up to navigate and keep a look out.
"Do you think I can do it? Catch the little slit of space between us and the heavens?" Drac asked hand still out. His eyes sparkled with determination, his dream of reaching that fabled middle ground all too real in his mind.
Raven didn't reply. She knew that to literally catch that space was impossible, but she didn't want to poke holes in his dream. So she said nothing. It was sometimes better to let someone think one way whether you believed them or not.
"I think we can. I think that that place is reachable. Even if everyone says it isn't, I say 'Why the Hell not?'" Drac said, standing up straight. Everyone had a dream, and that was his.
"It's like a rainbow." Raven murmured. The closer you got the farther away it seemed. You can chase it forever but you'll never be closer than you already are. Though she was thinking all that she still remained quiet.
"I've touched rainbows. It's not as hard as one might think," Drac said, truthfully. He'd had many adventures with his brother back home, and it was a good experience.
"Then maybe you'll get there one day." Raven said with a touch of wistfulness. She leaned her head back with a sigh. It must be nice to have a goal like that. A dream so nice and free of bloodshed.
"So, back to business, I suppose," Drac started, taking a deep breath. "FULL TO PORT!" he called, turning around to his men.
"So Captain, where are we off to next? If you don't mind cluing me in." Raven said wryly once they were set on course. She crossed her arms and looked at Drac with one brow raised. She wasn't as laid back as the rest of the crew but she felt it was a nice balance.
"We need supplies. The rum is gone," Drac replied, shrugging. As well as most of the other essentials, such as food, he added mentally.
She rolled her eyes. "Wouldn't want everyone's perpetual buzz to wear off." She muttered then cleared her throat. "So what are your plans to get supplies? We don't have much in the way of money." She said, trying to ignore the itch in her fingers which she got whenever she had the urge to steal.
"I might. I tend to try and keep money from you, big spender," he added. He never kept her informed of how many berries he had in the safe. And he changed the code every time she figured it out. He liked it where it was. But, for once, she was right. They'd probably have to rob a ship, which was his least favorite thing to do, but oh well.
Raven hmphed and laced her fingers behind her back. She may take most of the berries after she figured out his codes but it wasn't like she didn't pay him back.... Most of the time anyway. "So you do have a plan?" She asked skeptically. He seemed to make things up as he went along most of the time, though somehow everything turned out okay in the end so she couldn't exactly fault him for it.
