Ahhhh.. I gotta get my hands on the Invention of Morel. No bookstore carries it. I will end up ordering it online.....
That's what I had to do...though I can't even remember the the name of the site I ordered it from. It was a pretty cool little story!
I loved it! There was so much to the story, and it took me quite awhile to get through, but it was so worth it!
One of my favorites from the Lost List, but also of russian lit period (not that Ive read much... hee hee)
Took me awhile too, and when it was over, I felt like I lost a pc of me. All those characters became sort of like family for me.

That's exactly how I felt! I usually tear through books in a couple days, but this one took me 3 weeks, and I still was sad when it ended!
Oh man, it was painful...I can't believe how long it took me to finish it! I kept thinking it would get better or at least end well, but it did leave me with a lot of questions. Maybe that was the point? I dont' know, I'm just glad to be done with it! :)
I read 2 James's novelettes this month. Just like Turn of the Screw, they're awful. He was a poor storyteller, IMHO. And he seemed to love looooong sentences that don't mean anything.
Rauf, sorry to hear James' other work was just as bad. I'll know to avoid them in the future. I did read in my copy of Turn of the Screw that James was kind of known for using a "sex-starved woman has mental break-down" type theme in a lot of his work. Was that the case in the other novelettes you read? Reading the notes in my edition of Screw did help shed some light on different things, but I just skimmed a few parts of that. I couldn't make myself care enough to read more!
"sex-starved women with mental break down"?? :DDidn't find 'em in the ones I've read. I read The Beast in the Jungle (great title, btw, that's why I picked it up) and Death to the Lion. Or of the Lion. I forgot.
Maybe you'd like Beast in the Jungle, Jessica. I didn't like it but some people gave it 4 shiny stars.
Haha! I guess back then everyone (James included) considered the character of the governess to be a spinster since she was at the ripe ol' age of 20 and not yet married...hence the on-set of delusions. It was pretty funny.I'll probably wait on trying The Beast in the Jungle...I'm scared to tackle another James unless I'm absolutely desperate!
