My parents let me decide when I wanted it done (I was 11, almost 12). It's okay to do so when you are responsible enough to take care of your ears yourself. I personally wouldn't have my child's ears pierced when they were an infant, but seeing that it causes no health problems (besides potential infection, which is totally preventable) or anything, I'm not going to judge someone who does. And if the child doesn't want them later, it's easy to simply not wear earrings.

Exactly. It's not a BAD thing to do. It's just a difference in opinion between parents.

Um... maybe because it causes pain, and the kid doesn't get to make the decision for themselves... and if the kid doesn't want to wear earrings, they have the holes ..."

Agreed. Like I said before, I wouldn't do it myself, but I don't think it should be illegal or anything.

message 5: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (ace-geek) I think it should be any kind of body modification should be the individual's choice, but with ear piercing being so common I wouldn't have a problem if I had a 12-year-old child that wanted earrings. Tattoos and other things are another matter. I have both ears pierced but I had it done at 20.

Agreed.

I don't have any piercings (I don't see the point of putting holes in yourself), but I don't have any problem whatsoever with other people wanting to pierce their ears. At any sort of age. It's not completely permanent. But things such as tattoos are permanent, so I think people should consider it more, and it should be completely up to the person.

message 7: by Nik (new)

Nik (anxious-morality) I got mine pierced when I was a baby.

Evan (sampsom) | 578 comments My gran made my mum wait until she was twelve and so she made my sister wait until she was twelve.

message 9: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (ace-geek) Well I was 20 so I remember it. It wasn't painful at all. I did it at home with a piercing gun and my brother actually did the piercing. My real worry didn't start until the gun jammed and wouldn't let go of my ear.

message 10: by Sierra (new)

Sierra (skippingstones4) I don't see a problem with piercing infants' ears. My mom took me to get mine pierced when I was a baby because I had no hair and everybody thought I was a boy XD Some people still thought that I was a boy after they were pierced. Ugh, some people.

Wooooow. I swear some people have little to no intelligence.

Nope, I remember it...very clearly. :D

message 13: by Sierra (new)

Sierra (skippingstones4) Personally, I wouldn't do it but if you want to I think it'd be cool! :D

Jenn (ace-geek) Lia wrote: "I've always wanted to shave my head, since my hair's already short but a lot of people find that disgusting. *rolls eyes*"

You should go for it. Worst case scenario, it has to grow back over time.

message 15: by Sierra (new)

Sierra (skippingstones4) Which is...half of the population? :D A lot of people I know still think that girls should have long hair, I've been called a dyke because of my hairstyle more times than I can remember

Okay, that just makes me mad. There are so many girls who look really good with short hair or even no hair at all.

Exactly.

message 17: by Som (new)

Som Got my eyebrows pierced when I was 18 (off topic?). thought it was going to be very painful but it was just an ant's kiss..

Think it's OK at any age as long as the apparatuses are sterilized, safe.

message 18: by Som (new)

Som I've always thought that it hurt like crazy for a moment and then stopped...

Same here, friends even tried to scare me with some made up stories. One even said if I pierce my eyebrow I would most likely prick some nerve (he even made up a name for the nerve!). It's way less painful than having your ears pierced and I've got my ears pierced too, in a traditional ceremony when I was 11 years old. The thickness of the flesh amounts the pain...

Some people are just more sensitive. Myself, my mother and brother have ear piercings and none of us can wear anything without silver or gold posts without problems.

message 20: by Som (new)

Som A made up nerve, huh? The nerve of that guy to say that...

Lol @H99

You guys are fast at replying..!

Hm...no matter how sterile the piercings, my family always seem to develop inflammations, did that happen to you?

Nope, not a bit. It happened to my sister though when she got her ears pierced. I have got tattoo manually where they prick under the skin for a single dot. it is a 4 inch long, 2 inch wide tattoo on forearm. Mostly done in tribal areas. Didn't get any swell/infection from it either. But it was painful, but this pain was awesomeeeee!

message 21: by Som (new)

Som It's the logo of the band whose song we first played on stage. Google 'slipknot logo'. I still have it but it's a bit faded.

message 22: by Som (new)

Som Think It's all about parenting. Not a big deal though, most parents are concerned about the safety first. I'm against it though. Babies are innocent as the way they are; their innocence is their real beauty. I don't see any point behind piercing their ears unless it's a necessary custom/tradition of the society/family!

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

I think six is too young because I got mine done at six and I got an an affection and they closed up... I want to get them peirced again, like double peircings tho.

message 24: by Chantae (new)

Chantae B. I don't remember when I got my second one but I'm pretty sure I wasn't a baby and it was my choice and I got my second one in fourth grade and I want to get a third one.
I think the parents should let there child decide because I don't really see the point in having an infant or baby getting their ears peirced it should be their choice but I do think if they want to pierce their ears they should have their parents permission before they do it.

message 25: by Chantae (new)

Chantae B. I got my first hole some time around fibe I'm assuming I got my second in fourth grade. but I want a third one but my mom said I have to wait till I'm eighteen I think she might let me get it earlier though.

I don't think parents should get there childs ears pierced when they are just babies because its the childs body and they should be able to choose if they want their ears pierced or not

message 26: by Chantae (new)

Chantae B. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it because honestly I don't care

message 27: by Arielle Rae (last edited Mar 17, 2014 01:40AM) (new)

Arielle Rae Aguilar | 60 comments I got my ears pierced when I was very very young, and I'm glad that my parents did that for me. I think it would have been worse as I grew older, since I'm going to be more aware of the pain, and my flesh would have been less softer. Besides, if you get it done when you're young, no matter how long you don't put in earrings, the holes won't close up.

It honestly doesn't hurt that much, just saying. But that's my opinion haha
