I am on season 9 now. I have the first three trades. Really good stuff. Joss and the artists can do a lot more without the limitations of low-budget CGI.

You get a lot more out of the Buffy series from season 8 and up if you read the Angel books from IDW first. The Angel and Faith series is also seriously bad-ass. You have to read Buffy season 8 to understand the Angel and Faith series, though.

Alright, I'll check those out!
I was, sadly, disappointed by the Buffy Season 8 comic.I'll try & keep this spoiler-free.
As a hardcore fan I was SO excited (possibly even more so about Angel: After the Fall - which is very good). But it was so epic in scale & I hated that Buffy wasn't "the" slayer anymore (ok, Faith, but her existence made sense, so I was cool with that, and the Slayer-gone-bad thing was interesting). Suddenly there were tons of slayers & Buffy was a "ma'am". Didn't love it. There were some good story lines but the whole "Twilight" thing made little sense to me.
I started season 9 but lost interest. Maybe I'll try again...

There were some events from "Angel: After the Fall" and "Angel: The End" that are starting to play out in the Buffy comics. I think the Twilight story line is a part of that. Without saying too much, Spike has questions and takes action about prophesies. I think Twilight was a direct result of that.
I enjoyed how much Angel: After the Fall really sounds like the show characters. Lynch's Spike comics are lively and fun. Incidentally, there's a call for essays on Whedon comics through Aug 31 here; http://valeriefrankel.wordpress.com/2... and a list of Whedon's comics and reading order here: http://valeriefrankel.wordpress.com/2...
