Haaave Ya Met... discussion

My name is Sabrina. I go by SL Ross in my writing and on goodreads. I have self published a vampire series called Immortal Island which is currently 4 books possibly 5 in the near future.
Right now I am currently writing a book for the so you think you can write contest with harlequin and I just need someone to read this story that I started and let me know if its good, and whether or not I should go with it. It's not completed so it will be a fast read about 20k words so far.
In this story the hero is the main character.
Josh Wilson, firefighter/carpenter. Handsome good with his hands great heart.

Book starts of with Josh and his wife arguing about her infidelity and the truth about who the father of their son is.
Upon their divorce Josh dives into work and alcohol to drown out his sorrows. His friends and family are worried about him and his fire Chief forces him to see a psychiatrist to deal with his personal issues. Before working his next shift.
enter-> Dr. Cartwright, a beautiful red headed woman with her own issues on love.

eventually together they work out their issues.

I don't want to give to much away since its not very long right now. I have an idea of where I want to go with it, its just whether the story so far is enticing enough to continue. Any ideas to share will help. My story needs to be at least 55k words so its a long stretch.

From your description I am assuming this story you want readers for is NOT a vampire story, just a typical romance novel yes? I'm not into the vampire stories so much but I'd be willing to read it if it is romance.
