The Haunted Heart Playlist
I don't usually have much to add regarding music, but Black Velvet with Alannah Myles spells the mysterious South for me, and I think it is fitting for the last part of the story especially. It's not a cold song though, so not so much winter. But definitely mystery, and it is haunting :)

Thank you, Anne. You were fast! A great song and here is the link for it:
Black Velvet by Alannah Myles
Can't believe that one was released 1989. It seems like yesterday. :-)

All these playlist topics are so cool! I've never heard of Mazzy Star before and Breath Me by Sia... just wow.
This is just for fun: I don't have the finest idea what the lyrics say, but it's French (Flynn!!!) and beautifully played with guitar (Kirk!!!). LOL. Anyway, it's a nice song I want to share and something that hubby has been listening for a thousand times this summer. :-)
Onde Sensuelle by Fréro Delavega
I'm afraid the tone is too cheerful for Winter, BUT there ARE some cute guys in the video...

I've always loved this one. I think it works for Flynn, even though he is a young man.

Just a couple of songs I listened to while reading the first couple of chapters.Iris - Goo Goo Dolls

Mad World - Gary Jules

That cover of Mad World is one of my favorite songs ever. I think it is appropriate for ''The Haunted Heart''.Thank you for the Coldplay's song, dear Johanna, I didn't know it and it is beautiful.

Thank you so much for posting this one, KC. I've been listening to it a few times in a row now... it's beautiful. These playlist threads are such a great way to discover new favorites — and rediscover old ones. :-)

You are welcome, dear. Not everybody likes Coldplay, but this song is quite lovely, I think. Good night, everyone. :-)

Where the Wild Roses Grow by Kylie Minogue & Nick CaveI love it but it scares me.
I can't be with you by The Cranberries (for Flynn)
You can easily fit it in Flynn's POV. They're probably singing about a break-up, though.

I actually have the CD where that Nick Cave/Kylie Minogue song is on, it is called "Murder Ballads". I just had to have it because of the title. Some good songs there too, and yes this one is beautiful and scary.
Calathea wrote: "Where the Wild Roses Grow by Kylie Minogue & Nick CaveI love it but it scares me."
Oooh, I wrote an interesting short about that song. Scary indeed. Great song choice too.
Anne, Murder Ballads is a great CD. Mine is scratched from so much play.
Okay, some more:While my guitar gently weeps sung by Eric Clapton in the concert for George Harrison (after his passing away, his son on the stage, playing guitar)
Who wants to live forever by Queen
Holding back the years by Simply Red
Such great songs here! I'm looking forward to listening to them this afternoon. So many new ones and some old favorites :-)Johanna, Joe, i'm so glad you like K's Choice! :-) They have beautiful songs and lyrics, IMHO.
Here's something for the creepiness factor:a scene from the opera "Der Freischütz" by Carl Maria von Weber, the ghostly choirs before Kaspar summons Samiel
and "Night on Bald Mountain" by Modest Mussorgsky
This might fit Kirk. Still trying to get a clear picture of him in my mind.December 2 by Charles & Eddie
And something for the Jazz musician mentioned in the story.Creole Love Call by Duke Ellington and his orchestra

I agree, and both so beautiful! I didn't know this version of Mad World, but i really like it, and i do like Coldplay but this song is new to me. Cool! :-)

Nick Cave, Eric Clapton, and Queen! *deepbreathsigh* Nick Cave is scary, but what a voice! and those other two just get to me...
:-)
Love this one too: Creole Love Call by Duke Ellington and his orchestra
Johanna wrote: "Do you remember this? It could work for both of The Haunted Heart guys.Save Me by Aimee Man"

Oh, the lyrics of this one are surprisingly fitting. :-)
Madness by Muse

I'm glad you like it. It's a great song. I like the slow pace of it and the color, the tone of Aimee's voice. (ETA: If you liked that one, you might also like her One.)

Ok I'll give you music you'll never heard and two of them are actually haunted with death and despair......First one is Móðir mín í kví, kví.... and it is about a child that was unwanted and carried out to die..... it comes back to haunt it's mother....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4qECg...
And this one is a lullaby from a play about two outlaws that actually existed and who threw their child to death into a waterfall on escape from lawman.... the child was slowing was them down so the mother sang the child to sleep before throwing it to it's death.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Nfmf7...
And finally a hymn.... the oldest known hymn in all the Nordic countries.... written in 1208 by a man going into a battle, Kolbeinn Tumason. The night before the battle he sat down and wrote this hymn asking god for love and mercy because he was on his way to him..... called Heyr Himnasmiður (Hear Heavenly Creator)..... Kolbeinn died the day after in the battle. This is sang by an amazing singer from Faroe Island.... hauntingly beautiful voice. I can listen to this again and again and again....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uP_Iee...
Hope this is ghostly enough..... even if you don't understand the lyrics....;)
Ame wrote: "First one is Móðir mín í kví, kví.... "*gulp* Definitely something different. I don't know if I'm brave enough to listen to it...

This is so beautiful. And sad. *sigh*
Thank you, Ame!

You can do it.....;) However the song doesn't start until after about 10 seconds.
Here are some suggestions. Since I'm sending from my iPad, I'm not able to share the links. Sorry. I know the first and fourth are on on YouTube. The middle two are from Almerica, Lifehouse's new CD. I Knew You Were Trouble - Chester See, Tyler Ward, Lindsey Stirling (Taylor Swift Cover). Not Taylor Swift signing, but I love this version
Always Somewhere Close
Between the Raindrops -- both by Lifehouse
If I Needed Someone -- The Beatles
Beautiful, Ame! And thank you for the background stories for the songs.
Carlita and Sammie, great to see you here! Both Ordinary by Matt Gold and Nine Crimes by Damien Rice are lovely! Thank you so much for posting these. :-)
I wonder if there are any nice compositions (music) of Alfred Lord Tennyson's Break, Break, Break? Or are they all awfully dramatic?

And of course there should some song from Linkin Park's Minutes to Midnight album, since it was jammed between Kirk's sofa cushions. ;-) I like Shadow of The Day and What I've done — I have them on my running playlist. :-)
