Daniel This is the nomination thread for the Miscellaneous category. That includes pretty much any and all nominations which don’t fall into any of the other categories. It could be a standard genre like Western, Comedy, Graphic Novel or even Erotica. It could also be one of those newfangled mash-ups that all the kids are talking about nowadays.

Apart from the genre qualification, here are the ground rules: One nomination per person (per genre category); only books originally published in 2000 or later; and please, only nominations which possess some obvious literary merit.

Daniel For the miscellaneous category, I would like to nominate:

City of Thieves by David Benioff City of Thieves by David Benioff

Blurb excerpt: "As wise and funny as it is thrilling and original - the story of two young men on an impossible adventure. A writer visits his retired grandparents in Florida to document their experience during the infamous siege of Leningrad. His grandmother won't talk about it, but his grandfather reluctantly consents. The result is the captivating odyssey of two young men trying to survive against desperate odds."

Ben Rowe (benwickens) | 89 comments I was tempted to nominate here but I think most of the existing nominations are all pretty interesting and feel there is enough interesting considerations for a poll.

I was tempted to suggest something like Summer Blonde or Jimmy Corrigan, the Smartest Kid on Earth as good examples of literate and interesting graphic novels or Karen Joy Fowler's The Jane Austen Book Club that is often unjustly ignored as "chick lit" or "romance" but is actually a pretty interesting and satisfying piece of literature.

I thought YA and children's fiction might be worth representing with something like Meg Rosoff, Phillip Pullman or Sally Gardner but I think this area is well covered by the existing nominations.
