Novels have always played a role in shaping our political views. The right bombard bookstores with alternative history books by Glen Beck and others to popularize their extreme beliefs. Progressives should do the same. Let's promote books that change the political discussion.

I believe the issues of Income/Wealth/Political concentration threaten America's core values. There are many great economic books on this topic that do much to increase our understanding of cause and effect, but we also need popular books to start grass root discussions.

My novel, Fourteenth Colony, is a fast-paced dystopian political thriller. It has been described as "original entertainment," the "flip side to Atlas Shrugged," and "provocative." I think it is important to present the issue of Income/Wealth/Political concentration through a fun medium like a fast-paced thriller. These issues are insidious in nature and only by taking a wide lens (in this case thirty years) do we really see the path America might take. Hopefully, this book can help bring attention to these issues while entertaining readers.

The book has gotten great reviews from Midwest Book Review, Clarion, Goodreads (5 stars), and Amazon (5 Stars). I donate half of my proceeds to Covenant House, which is a great charity that helps homeless kids aged 16 to 21.

There’s an increasing amount of talk these days, from people concerned about the direction we’ve been taking as a Nation, about the idea of portions of states or regions breaking off from or seceding from the rest of the Country. Forming their own political entities. A left wing joke that made the rounds a few years ago was along the lines of: “Fine. Let’s divide the Country. We get Yale and Stanford; you get Liberty University and Ole Miss. We get the Guggenheim and the Met; you get Opryland. We get Silicon Valley and venture capital; you get Walmart and Kentucky Fried Chicken etc.

In former times the talk mostly came from one side or the other, depending on the issue at hand. But today, it seems to be coming from both sides. The Right is concerned about gun control, Roe v. Wade and creeping socialism. The left is upset about corporate corruption, government spying on Americans and the influence of the religious right. Both sides are upset about political audits, money in politics and the circus we call Congress.

Most of this talk is just that. Talk.

But what would happen if somebody actually tried to do something about it? What would happen if somebody actually threw down the gauntlet? Actually put an initiative on some local ballot to secede from the rest of the Country. What would happen to such a person? And what would become of such a movement?

A Feeling for which to Forever Reach

Where the mind bears the realization of the effect of its own selfish desires, a light within the intension to cause only good, begins to manifest. Physically it is felt running through the body, arching at toes and finger tips, fluxing over the curvature of the eye, jumping upon the surface of the skin. As the feeling of that desire to show love and no more, wells up from within. A calm coherence of gentle emotion pours over the mind, entering a place inside that believes in no end. This knowing of awareness, which only faith in love and truth can cause to arise, is the only true worth in the existence that is or will ever be. Once in it, I am sorry for every selfish thought, that I was too weak to keep enclosed. From which actions, not forged in the emotion of this light, have furthered the darkness through which each of us suffers. As only when interacting from within the purity of love, does the world truly know life.

For being so spot on to the detail and non-deviant from truth; I couldn't help but to finish it in one go.
For the first time, I was able to grasp the entirety of global politic.
