Based on the Goodreads Listopia for each category:

1940s: 1984
1950s: Fahrenheit 451
1960s: Dune
1970s: Rendezvous with Rama
1980s: Foundation's Edge

The last two are new lists and would probably change. Good list nonetheless.

I haven't read Lovecraft except for maybe one book.
