Prince Charming Quarterly Challenge
15 September to 14 December 2013

Inspired by the new Royal Prince, Prince George Alexander Louis, we have designed another names challenge. Ok - so we are a bit late, but so was George, so we won't dwell on that :)

The idea for this challenge is to read one book for each of the baby names listed below. These names are currently the most popular baby names in the US and the UK (double-ups have been removed):

BOYS: Jacob, Mason, Ethan, Noah, William, Liam, Jayden, Michael, Alexander, Aiden, Harry, Jack, Oliver, Charlie, James, George, Thomas
(17 names in total)

GIRLS: Sophia, Emma, Isabella, Olivia, Ava, Emily, Abigail, Mia, Madison, Elizabeth, Amelia, Lily, Isabelle, Sophie, Jessica, Chloe
(16 names in total)

Where these names may be found:
- the name of a character (not necessarily MCs, but they have to be more than a cameo); and
- the name of the author. For the author, you may also find the name within the first or last name but it must be spelt exactly. For example, 'Jameson' works for 'James' but Jamieson does not qualify.

For this challenge, I have set three levels of difficulty on top of selecting how many books you will read.

FIRSTLY

4, 8, 12, 16/17 (if you undertake Level 2), 20, 20+

THEN
Select your level

Level One: you must find a 50/50 mix of male and female names from character and author names.
Level Two: find 100% ALL male or ALL female names from character and author names (this would be a selection to read either 16 or 17 books depending on the whether you pick M or F)
Level Three: Find all the male and female names (33 in total) from either source.

Bonus: Find the word(s)/name(s) below in the title, series name, author's name or character's name -

The sources noted for the bonus are ONLY for bonus reads, not for the main challenge. These may be read at any point during the challenge.


Additional rules/clarifications:
* Rereads are allowed
* Names must be spelt exactly. No exceptions. (As noted above, you may find the name within the author name but the baby name must be spelt exactly.)
* The characters name will count, even if it is the surname of the character, eg John Madison, Ruth Alexander
* You cannot extend the allowance with the author names to the character names. That is, Jameson is fine to use under the author name rule, but not as a character's name.
* No minimum limit on pages
* One book must be read for each name. Two names cannot be marked off within one book.
* Level 1 can only be upgraded to Level 3 if you have already read names from both sexes. If not, then you may upgrade to level 2 if you wish.
* Note the level and number of books that you are aiming for on your challenge list.
* If you are completing level 1, keep a running total at the top of your list of your character/author balance.
* As a book is added to your list, mark whether the baby's name is a character or author name.
* Repost your final list when you finish. During the challenge, it is up to you if you edit your original post, or repost your list on each update :)

Prince Charming Quarterly Challenge

Inspired by the new Royal Prince, Prince George Alexander Louis, we have designed another names challenge. Ok - so we are a bit late, but so was George, so we won't dwell on that :)

The idea for this challenge is to read one book for each of the baby names listed below. These names are currently the most popular baby names in the US and the UK (double-ups have been removed):

BOYS: Jacob, Mason, Ethan, Noah, William, Liam, Jayden, Michael, Alexander, Aiden, Harry, Jack, Oliver, Charlie, James, George, Thomas
(17 names in total)

GIRLS: Sophia, Emma, Isabella, Olivia, Ava, Emily, Abigail, Mia, Madison, Elizabeth, Amelia, Lily, Isabelle, Sophie, Jessica, Chloe
(16 names in total)

Where these names may be found:
- the name of a character (not necessarily MCs, but they have to be more than a cameo); and
- the name of the author. For the author, you may also find the name within the first or last name but it must be spelt exactly. For example, 'Jameson' works for 'James' but Jamieson does not qualify.

For this challenge, I have set three levels of difficulty on top of selecting how many books you will read.

FIRSTLY
Select how many books you will read for this challenge:
4, 8, 12, 16/17 (if you undertake Level 2), 20, 20+

THEN
Select your level

Level One: you must find a 50/50 mix of male and female names from character and author names.
Level Two: find 100% ALL male or ALL female names from character and author names (this would be a selection to read either 16 or 17 books depending on the whether you pick M or F)
Level Three: Find all the male and female names (33 in total) from either source.

Bonus: Find the word(s)/name(s) below in the title, series name, author's name or character's name -

The sources noted for the bonus are ONLY for bonus reads, not for the main challenge. These may be read at any point during the challenge.


Additional rules/clarifications:
* Rereads are allowed
* Names must be spelt exactly. No exceptions. (As noted above, you may find the name within the author name but the baby name must be spelt exactly.)
* The characters name will count, even if it is the surname of the character, eg John Madison, Ruth Alexander
* You cannot extend the allowance with the author names to the character names. That is, Jameson is fine to use under the author name rule, but not as a character's name.
* No minimum limit on pages
* One book must be read for each name. Two names cannot be marked off within one book.
* Level 1 can only be upgraded to Level 3 if you have already read names from both sexes. If not, then you may upgrade to level 2 if you wish.
* Note the level and number of books that you are aiming for on your challenge list.
* If you are completing level 1, keep a running total at the top of your list of your character/author balance.
* As a book is added to your list, mark whether the baby's name is a character or author name.
* Repost your final list when you finish. During the challenge, it is up to you if you edit your original post, or repost your list on each update :)

You should ask this in the Suggestion/Discussion thread - HERE. Although I'm guessing the answer will be no, the rules say that the name must be spelled exactly. There might be exceptions for different languages, not likely, but you never know!

Hi Catherine -the bonus needs to come from a character or author's name, the series name or in the book title. The character still needs to be more than a cameo -the bonus segment is just a wider arc, allowing series and titles as well. Hope this clarifies it for you...
