how did you come to write about not only about such different main women characters in this book but also about adoptions, birth defects, etc.? it seems like such a personal story.

Sorry Clara I just saw this! I had the idea for the book a long time ago, but when some friends of mine had a baby with a fatal genetic disorder, I was so moved by their care and love for him that it inspired that part of the story. Martha and Alex are very different but in some ways I can relate to both of them, at different parts of my life!
