Alice (alice20) I would love to hear your ideas about how to make this group better!

message 2: by Erica (new)

Erica Pike (ericapike) | 5 comments Hi Ali :) I seem to have found this group at its creation stage ^.^ I want to put up a post with a warning to authors about dishonest publishers. Where would I put that?

message 3: by Alice (new)

Alice (alice20) That's actually a good question... hold on while I move some things around. I'll post again in a moment.

message 4: by Alice (new)

Alice (alice20) Okay, I just added a folder called "Give Writing Advice". You can go ahead and post a topic in there :)

message 5: by Gillian (new)

Gillian (gillianf0ley) I think to make the group neater, and more simple to follow I would make it so that...
If you need advice there is a specific advice folder, and people would comment replies to them.. Instead of ask for advice here, and a separate folder saying give advice here.. It's actually very confusing.

message 6: by Raevyn (new)

Raevyn "Lucia" [I'm in it for the books] (raevynstar) | 46 comments I like that idea, and I also think maybe there should be writing contests.

Yes, writing contests! That's a fun idea.. Friendly competition, or if you gave weekly themes on what we should write about.. Whether one week be love, and the next be spring.

message 8: by Alice (new)

Alice (alice20) Oh Gillian I'm sorry for the confusion... The ask for advice folder is where people can make their own topics where they ask for suggestions/answers to their question. The give advice folder is where people can give people advice that hasn't been asked before. (For example, Erica wanted to give advice about avoiding bad publishers even though that hasn't been asked for by anybody yet. So she would post her advice in the "give advice" folder).

Haha now that I've written it out, I realize that is it probably really confusing.

message 9: by Alice (new)

Alice (alice20) And the writing contest does sound fun... Who do you think the judges should be?

message 10: by Raevyn (new)

Raevyn "Lucia" [I'm in it for the books] (raevynstar) | 46 comments The mod(s) for the first one, and then the winners of the previous contest. At least, that's how I've seen it done.:)

message 11: by Alice (new)

Alice (alice20) Hmmm.. Yeah good idea. Okay I'll arrange it soon

Erica Pike (ericapike) | 5 comments Ali wrote: "Okay, I just added a folder called "Give Writing Advice". You can go ahead and post a topic in there :)"

Thanks, Ali :) I really like the idea of this thread, by the way.

message 13: by Erica (new)

Erica Pike (ericapike) | 5 comments Ali wrote: "And the writing contest does sound fun... Who do you think the judges should be?"

Ali, you could set up a poll with the story names.

message 14: by Alice (new)

Alice (alice20) Thanks Erica :)
And actually yes I was thinking that could work, but the downside to having a poll is that people vote for their own stories, which would defeat the purpose of a judge... But maybe we could have the honor system where people can't vote for their own stories.

message 15: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (catwithkeyboard) I think there should be a thread dedicated to writing prompts where people can go and get ideas for stories to write. I have a text file with pages and pages of writing prompts just so I can pick one to get the creativity flowing. They really do come in handy.

message 16: by Alice (new)

Alice (alice20) Great suggestion :)
I'll go make a new folder.

message 17: by T. (new)

T. Johnston What about informing new authors about editors and pricing to help them get started?

message 18: by Alice (new)

Alice (alice20) If you want people to give you advice on that make a topic under the ask for advice folder. Do you want me to make it for you?

Can we maybe start a folder about the whole book-publishing process? Everyone can ask questions about the steps on becoming a published author. I do have a few questions myself that I don't know the answers to xD

message 20: by Alice (new)

Alice (alice20) Hmm... I see what you're saying! :) But do you think we should have a whole folder for that? I think people could just post advice or questions in the folders if they need help...

Oh yeah. True! Nvm then :)

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 150 comments We need a R4R section

message 23: by Alice (new)

Alice (alice20) Read for reviews?

message 25: by Alice (new)

Alice (alice20) I feel like a lot of groups have that already though. And I don't really know how to host that. :(

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 150 comments Ooo ok there's a author here that is asking for readers that's why I suggested it:)

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 150 comments Can we do a buddy Write type of thing?

we should! That would be fun :)

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 150 comments Cool, I would love to participate

message 30: by Alice (new)

Alice (alice20) Just to clarify, by "buddy write" do you mean a roleplay sort of thing where two people make a story together? Or do you mean a buddy system where you and your partner encourage each other to work on your individual stories?

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 150 comments No, I meant like a story is started between two. But both people are required to meet a 800words per post. It to encourage writing length.

message 32: by Alice (new)

Alice (alice20) Oh so kind of like a super-advanced roleplay.

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 150 comments Yes and no. The goal is to increase writing. So I guess it would be more like a challenge where you have to increase you word count by two words every time you post.

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 150 comments No discussing topics just writing and going with the flow of the post

message 35: by Alice (new)

Alice (alice20) Yeah I guess we could try it

i think the other idea of two people encouraging each other to work on their own stories sounds pretty cool too! :D

Alice (alice20) I liked that idea as well! Check out the new folder ("Work with a writing buddy") I made!
