This is a Buddy Read for Rapture In Death. Many of us have decided to take a slow stroll back through the series. We all have other books to read, so no hurry. Please join us if you want to do a reread, are new to the series, or just want to jump in our discussions. We are having a blast!

Please note: Spoiler Alert...we will be openly discussing this book.

I can't believe we're already up to book 4, even with going "slow" and digging deep into these books with our discussions. I'm going to try to start rereading this book later this week. Really enjoying these discussions!

message 3: by Dana (new) - added it

Dana (danabritt) I need to get a copy of this one--I've been buying used copies from Amazon as each title comes up for us to read. I've read them all but either read them as library books or ebooks, now I want copies for the shelf :)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11255 comments Mod
No hurry, Dana. I've got a couple of books to read and review this week before I can start this one.

message 5: by Dee (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 1070 comments I've got to look to see if I have this book in my collection. I am positive I have the audio.

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments Dana, have you looked into eBay for In Death lot sales? There are some good ones on right now for decent pricing. I started my collection from there.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11255 comments Mod
I don't want to leave anyone behind that wants to read with us so we may be posting back & forth for a bit while everyone finishes Immortal. I've got several books to read too plus we have the new ones coming out this month! Happy Reading, Y'all!

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11255 comments Mod
Has anyone started Rapture yet...I'm still finishing up a couple of other books.

Michelle | 2676 comments I haven't started yet. I'll probably start Sunday

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11255 comments Mod
Hey Michelle...I wondered where you were! I'm running behind too so Sunday sounds great.

Michelle | 2676 comments Works been keeping me busy. Haven't even found enough time to read my other books! Feels weird taking day instead of hours to read a book :-))

But I'll start listening this weekend

Michelle | 2676 comments Has anybody else started Rapture yet?

message 13: by Dawn (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments I listened to it last week

Michelle | 2676 comments Hang in there dawn. We'll be joining you soon

message 15: by Dawn (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments It is kind of cheating, when I listen while everyone else reads. I am cleaning and listening at the same time lol

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm right there with ya Dawn. I listen while I do chores or exercise, keeps me wanting to ride the bike longer that way :)

Okay first question as you ladies start in. At the end of Chapter 4 we "hear" the thought of our killer (the first real indication that there is something going on besides a rash of suicides for the reader at least). She is thinking about Dallas and her childhood and says:

"What did that sort of life do to the mind? To the heart? To the person? It had made the girl a social worker and had made Eve Dallas into a woman who had become a cop."

What girl??? At this point Fitz and Mathias are dead, no social worker has been introduced. I have read this several times and never picked up on that and have no idea who the heck it is referring to.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11255 comments Mod
I'm starting this tonight or tomorrow. Don't remember that particular passage but I'll watch for it as I'm reading.

message 18: by Dawn (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments My answer to that is going to give away an important factor. Let me see if I can remember the spoiler thing...

message 19: by Dawn (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments (view spoiler)

message 20: by Dawn (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments Yea!

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15115 comments Mod
Thanks, Dawn, as I remembered that passage and was stumped.

message 22: by Dawn (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments I may be wrong, but that was how I thought of it...

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments I never even clued into that! Thanks for pointing that out Beth and Dawn.

message 24: by Dee (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 1070 comments I missed that one too. I am going to have to go back and re listen to that part.

Michelle | 2676 comments Thanx Dawn for the spoiler as I'm only starting it today or tomorrow. But don't feel that you have to do that in this discussion. No spoiler alert needed here ;-)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15115 comments Mod
Well...I thought about that, Michelle, and appreciated that maybe in this case it was needed since it discloses something not found until the very end. Better to apply caution for those reading this for the first time, maybe?

message 27: by Dawn (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments I thought in case someone who has not read it once wanders into this conversation, it would be prudent. Especially since it contains really specific info....

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

I agree with your spoiler idea, but is that the case? Was she a social worker? Did I totally miss this bit of info too?

message 29: by Dawn (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments She is a psychiatrist, so I thought maybe she started out a social worker.

I think Michelle is referring back to the point that we agreed these buddy reads would be a Spoiler Zone - a place where we openly discuss the books without worrying about using the Spoiler Tags as pointed out in Message 1 above. If everyone feels we need to go back to spoiler tags, then I need to state that at the beginning of each BR to let everyone know to use them. I do think sometimes people feel a little "constricted" by having to use them, and thus, they don't discuss as much as they do when they can just freely say/type what they want. And if we stay with Not using spoiler tags, I do think I should go back to the thread title and include the words Spoiler Zone to make people aware before they open the thread. That way, they are double warned - on the thread title and in the first post. I do understand both sides of this issue. Let me know what you want.

Michelle | 2676 comments I was referring to that Sandra.
And I've started . . .

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11255 comments Mod
WhooHooo...Michelle! Don't get too far ahead of me! lol

message 33: by Dawn (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments I am okay either way. I just didn't want to give that away if someone had not read the book.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11255 comments Mod
I understand, Dawn. That was nice of you to do. I think I will go ahead and add Spoiler Zone to the thread title. I can change it if members want the spoiler tags in this thread all the time. I'm good either way.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11255 comments Mod
I added Spoiler Zone to the first 3 books in the buddy read's too - as a warning to anyone later on who might wander in.

Dawn wrote: "She is a psychiatrist, so I thought maybe she started out a social worker."

Very possible. Maybe something that ended up on the cutting room floor but that reference didn't get cut. My other thought was maybe her mother.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15115 comments Mod
I think Dawn was being prudent and don't see a need to change anything:) We should each follow our judgment in circumstances like this.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11255 comments Mod
Sounds good and I agree. It did serve to draw my attention to the fact that I needed to add Spoiler Zone to the thread titles so fans are forewarned before opening the thread. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone with these awesome books.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15115 comments Mod
Very good idea!

Lesley (whimsey2) | 113 comments I think it refers to Eve and her sense of justice fighting for what is right. I don't think when she says social worker that she means the actual job but Eves knowing she wanted to help people from early on her sense of public service

Michelle | 2676 comments Love that moment when Roarke gives her the flower from her bouquet *sigh*
Only Eve would have to work on her honeymoon

message 42: by Dawn (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments Oh I agree...in fact it is one of my favorite "sweet Roarke" moments.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11255 comments Mod
Heart melting sweet moment...Every girl deserves her own Roarke.

Michelle | 2676 comments Really hating Jess !! Roarke already had a hard time after Eve dealt with her past and being raped by her father and now this! This was really scary. Roarke not being in control. And as her said this is in him. Makes me glad we never met Roarke couple of years after Marlena was used against him.

message 45: by Michelle (last edited Sep 17, 2013 04:54AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Michelle | 2676 comments But at the same time I have to mention Summerset. The small digs at each other are classic. Loved how he 'left' the car where she had left it; down the drive way :-) And how she turns to him after the closet incident.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15115 comments Mod
Jess is a real sleaze and a creep. I'm glad he got what he had coming.

That closet scene was so disturbing when you think about what trauma it caused Roarke. And Jess thought this was funny.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11255 comments Mod
Can't believe I'm doing this but I'm jumping into Rapture again instead of reading Thankless! I've been really backed up with books and just have to catch up with some I've already committed to read and review. And I will know I have that little "treasure" sitting there on my Kindle waiting for me in a few days! :)

message 48: by Dawn (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments That's okay Starshine, I finished it at 6:30 pm tonight....that is 18 hours after I downloaded it. You can breeze through and not gt behind at all. Lol

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments The scene where Eve tells Roarke he should sing with Mavis and him blanching at the thought. She laid on the compliments pretty thick so he knew she was joking. His face would be priceless to see. Then his reaction to Eve saying "I love you" .... Totally melts your heart. At this point, expressing her feelings out loud is still rather new even though she is married and all.

What Jess did was disgusting and appalling, manipulating Roarke's mind. He was so distraught after. I was angry and hurting for them both at that point!

message 50: by Michelle (last edited Sep 18, 2013 12:16AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Michelle | 2676 comments I had a lump in my throat at Roarke reaction to her sayings " oh I love you" . And truly it is a lovely scene. I wonder if Eve had ever been that playful before with any one. And that she has Roarke for a good while going is just as delightful :-))
