Linda Kelly Really loved Innocent Traitor by Alison Weir. It is beautiful, sad and heartbreaking. Based on the short, tragic life of Lady Jane Grey and I cried buckets at the end and was really angry about her fate and the injustices thrown at her. Highly recommend it.

Anirudh The Troy series by David Gemmel. It tells the human and more plausible version of the Trojan War. But the point of view is not of Achilles and the Greeks. But The Trojans and Odysseus.

It is well written and fast paced. I really enjoyed reading it :)

Thanks all of you for the suggestions!

Holly (goldikova) I really enjoy reading historical fiction; especially when there are strong female main characters.

There are two books by Judith Merkle Reilly (or Riley?) that I particularly enjoyed.....The Serpent Garden and The Oracle Glass. Both of these stories feature young women who beat the odds and succeed in areas that were forbidden to women in those times.

I also like to read fictionalized accounts of real people, Marie Antoinette, Catherine de Medici, Madame Pompadour, Madame Tussaud, etc. Such fascinating stories these ladies have.

Thanks for the suggestions Holly!

Hajarath Prasad Abburu (hajarath) | 2833 comments really loved the Shiva Trilogy and I hope it comes under this genre.

Chanakya's Chant and the Krishna Key are also engaging though the latter is straight out of a Don Brown template!

Cath (cathastrophic) Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke

I think a book that could fit in this is Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Suzanna Clake. It's the book that took me the longest to read (and that has the biggest bottom page notes, some 2 to 3 pages long) but OH SO worth it!

KSMary Loving Frank by Nancy Horan and The Paris Wife by Paula McLain are both good books

Kylie (livelykylie) I recently read Helen of Sparta by Amalia Corosella. Think I got the title wrong and it should be Helen of Troy? Nope. This tells the story of the girl who's face launched a thousand ships BEFORE it did so. It's fantastic especially for those who are interested in Greek mythology.

Celtic Blood
All who dare come ye hither into the dark woods where danger lies. The theme of dangers lurking in the greenery is ancestral, and species long, it scares us and fascinates us both. Come with me and enter the woods. A boy once his father is murdered seeks escape amongst the wilds riding deeper and deeper into the emerald green forest. He is the son of a noble Earl, the great-grandson of a king furthermore marked for death. He is the last of his line and alone in the trees bar for one retainer who has forsaken him not. A forest has haunting power. You need God's power and protection in the shadows. And in the deep dark mysterious forest shadows nothing, nothing, protects you. All who dare enter Celtic Blood: A world of mythology and witchcraft.
