The Lost Night (Rainshadow, #1; Harmony, #9) by Jayne Castle = 332 pages ★★★★
The Trouble With Fate (Mystwalker, #1) by Leigh Evans up to page 177

Lost Night is a re-read for a JAK challenge over on RRRC as well as the next book Deception Cove (Rainshadow, #2; Harmony, #10) by Jayne Castle came last Friday and I needed a refresher.

The Trouble with Fate is a debut novel about a half fae/half werewolf girl and is pretty interesting so far. So interesting I've just bought the next book and preordered #3.

Day 1: 391 pages
Day 2: 509 pages

Phoenix Rising (Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences #1) by Philippa Ballantine = 402 pages ★★★
Power of Seduction by Madison Chase = 66 pages of 235 pages

Phoenix Rising:

The writing was good and the world building was as well, but it seemed the characterizations were a bit heavy handed. It was all a bit tell the reader rather than show the reader, which was a shame, and led to Eliza being a little wooden, and Welly being even more wooden.

Lots of things were set up for other books in the series including the dastardedly Duke of Sussex, the traitor Bruce Campbell (the token Aussie. LOL) and the assassin Sofia.

Loved all the NZ references and a few Aussie ones as well.

Power of Seduction:

This is a predominately shifter book (235 pgs) that I bought many years ago, thought I'd read but hadn't. I saw it recommended and it looked familiar so I went looking and thought yeah I've got that, but what, I haven't read it yet. So I just kept reading. LOL. Determined to finish it now.

Day 1: 391 pages
Day 2: 509 pages
Day 3: 468 pages
Total: 1368 pages
