Star Trek Reads discussion

I'm pretty excited about vanguard too, as much as it surprises me because I'm not much of an original series reader. They to me are exceptionally well developed and I salute holding to the 'original reality' over the new JJ Abrams version. His is entertaining but, also disintegrating at the same time of what I hold and respect of all the branches of series and the Star Trek world continually woven with the books. I hate the inconsistencies, love the stories and deeper character development and that little light that pops on as the story develops that explains some inane curiosity that was never delved into onscreen. And I love an author that can tell the story well ;)

I'm working my way through Vanguard as we speak. It's pretty good, and I like that it's at the same time as TOS, so that the Enterprise's actions are mentioned in the background of rising tension with the Klingons and Romulans.

I loved the Vanguard series. The only fan art I am aware of is by Rob Caswell, who inspired the Vanguard authors to start a new series called Star Trek: Seekers (which continues the story of the Taurus Reach after the end of Vanguard). The art isn't about the characters though.

Vanguard is not part of the New Frontier series, is it? I thought it was its own series. There is another thread in this group for the Vanguard series. This thread, I think, is a duplicate one, mislocated at that.

New Frontier and Vanguard are not related. They are separate series that are both worth reading.

Agreed. But this Vanguard thread has been (mis)placed in the New Frontier section.

I just finished Storming Heaven this week-- a good ending. On the whole, I rather liked the series, and it may be the impetus I need to read more Trek regularly.
