Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) I'll be reading The Fall of the House of Usher and Other Tales as my All Hallows read readalong for Halloween on October 20th-31st. If anyone wants to read it with me, you are welcome to. I don't know what I will read before then but I will figure it out.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

I was just wondering, if the non-fiction had two winners, why did the fiction have only one? Not that I am complaining or anything? Just merely curious.

Keep in mind that nonfiction gets two months while fiction only one.

I think that it is still in question, as the poll was extremely close (only one vote separation between first and second!).

message 20: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) K, I'm sorry I offended you deleted user. Take care.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Amber, I don't think you upset that deleted user. I think they were a bit of an attention seeker/troll as they seemed to continually post on a reading group about how they didn't like reading. Not worth your energy and your comment was certainly not offensive in any way!

I haven't decided by October books yet. Will see what I get read on my holiday and decide then. Have a long list of unread books on my kindle so will pick from there

message 22: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) mainly for Amber - I sort of agree with Heather. Whatever "deleted user" Elizabeth's motivations, she sure had problems. 5 or 6 of us have tried to help her and absolutely NOBODY was judgmental in any way (so the public enemy bit is all in her mind.)

I'm posting this just in case you start feeling at all responsible for her leaving. Cos you're not!! It was just a question of time.

And "deleted user" Elizabeth, if you're reading this, just take a deep breath, read if, when and what you want (even if it's just these threads) and try to accept a helping hand if you need it :)

Back on topic I'm trying to put on the brakes and catch up with the books I'm already "committed" to. It's so hard not looking past the blinkers when fresh unknown goodies keep coming up all the time in my groups! I probably will succumb. lol

I'm sorry is she got upset, but I don't feel that anyone of has have been to blame! Plenty of space here to understand each other if we really want!
I'm starting to consider what to read next month; in a day or two I'll be more precise!

message 24: by Alannah (new)

Alannah Clarke (alannahclarke) | 15244 comments Mod
I agree Jean, some of us tried to help her. I felt like she was taking her bad experience and forcing it on the group which isn't right on the other members.

message 25: by SiMo (last edited Sep 17, 2013 02:45AM) (new)

SiMo (simo_biblionauta) Ehm... someone is a bit "overexcited" here... O_O
Anyway, I've finished my reading plan for october considering reading groups and challenges (talking about "reading frenzy" =D) and I've come up with this:

Death at La Fenice by Donna Leon
Murder on the Links by Agatha Christie
The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman
The Runaways by Ruth Thomas

I hope I'll have enough time! =D

message 26: by Pink (last edited Oct 22, 2013 02:51PM) (new)

Pink Ditto. Book groups are for people who enjoy reading, so if something doesn't work for you, don't do it, no pressure! We're all a nice friendly bunch ready to offer support, but ultimately we're here to have FUN talking about books :)

I can't believe it's nearly October already. I've really slowed down my reading pace these past couple of months, which is okay, except I have so many books sitting on my bookshelf that I really want to start.

October for me is possibly -
The Night Circus (group read)
Lolita (read along with Becca)
Sherlock - Memoirs

and whatever else I haven't got through in September

I might join in with the readalong of We have always lived in the castle, if that's okay. Although don't hold me to that!

message 27: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments You are more than welcome to Pink! Will be secretly peeking into your readalong for Lolita to see how you like it, I've read it a few years ago and it left quite an impression.

I totally loved The Runaways!

message 29: by dely (new)

dely | 5214 comments I never do a list of the books I want to read monthly. For me it is impossibile to respect such a list because there is always some new book that comes in my way. Other times I decide to read a book and in the last moment I pick up another one!

A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man

So far if I can't get to read much this month, I am still planning to read Girl Interrupted and Rosalind Franklin The Dark Lady of DNA for the group reads. I don't feel as much pressure to finish these now I know they take place over two months instead of just the one month. I might skim through 'book:The Night Circus] if anyone talks about any interesting parts and will hopefully also read The House on the Strand. :)

message 38: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Thanks Heather and Jean. I tried to help that person out and tried not to offend her but even with my telling her reading isn't so bad, she snapped at me anyway! At least we all love to read for pleasure and I feel sorry for those who don't feel as if reading is important like that person did who didn't enjoy reading anymore. I'm not going to let it bother me anymore because I did nothing wrong. Good luck on your October reads everyone! ^_^

Elisa | 206 comments I've missed this whole big discussion about being fed up by books, and I've just checked the old posts.
I absolutely think that you did not say anything inappropriate Amber! Well done with not letting this stuff bother you.

message 41: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Thanks Elisa! ^_^

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

Sheesh, I go away for a weekend and things get crazy! You shouldn't feel bad Amber :-) I'm going to delete her long, ranty comment so we don't have to look at it again ;-)

Anyway, in October I shall attempt to read:

The Night Circus
Lolita
Allegiant (if it arrives by the end of October)
The Shining
Girl, Interrupted

message 43: by Amber (last edited Sep 17, 2013 07:46AM) (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Awesome Becca! Good luck with your reads. and I don't feel bad at all. I'm going to get through The Mark of Zorrofirst and any other reads I want to read this month and then will do my Edgar Allan Poe readalong for Halloween starting October 20th. I will try to find some other reads before then though.

message 44: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Yep absolutely - spent enough time on this. Back on track yes? Pink was right; we try to help but ultimately we want to talk about the books!!

I want to read several of those mentioned for group reads, The House on the Strand, the next Inspector Morse for a buddy read and "Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" also for that group. Plus The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and another readalong The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. That's not to mention odd books I find for myself during the month of course!

message 47: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Charbel - Thanks! Have you read the first 2? I'll probably write a review like I did for the others in Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy. Several of us in the "Book Vipers" group are reading it next as we're working through them.

By the way, that doesn't count as an advert for a different group does it Becca? Feel free to delete it if so! I noticed "deleted user's" comment has now gone - and interestingly all the numbers seem to have shuffled up. I didn't know they did that.

Nah, I'm not bothered about anyone mentioning another group, lol. As long as it's not like 'join us and leave this group' (which yours isn't) then I don't have an issue personally :) Yeah, it was annoying me looking at that comment so I deleted it.

Yes I've read the entire series, the first one is my favourite but I highly enjoyed the other two. I read them one after the other so I was immersed in them.
