A World Without Sun discussion

Its old and creaky. What did you expect it to be glamorous.

"Is this the place?" Aaron asked looking up at the old house.

Chloe nodded and walked up to the door, thankful Carl's car wasn't here yet.

"Looks old." Aaron commented. He looked around. "I've really never come here before. I woukd have noticed this place."

Chloe nodded, "With all his money; you think he give me a better place." she tried to joke and led him inside.

"Your stepfather?" he asked, following her inside. He closed the door behind him.

"Ya." Chloe said and picked up a few beer bottles, he had left in the hall and threw it in trash, "Sorry about the mess."

"That's okay." Aaron said. "My place isn't the model of cleanliness either." he looked at the bottles. "But I don't drink."

"They're his." she said

"Oh." Aaron looked at the inside of the house. It looked as old as the outside. "Where's your-your daughter?" he asked.

She led him into the living room, where Lily sat with the sitter, Chloe paid her and hugged her daughter.
Lily hugged her mom back, her long sleeves hiding the bruises that she too had on her. She looked up at Aaron afraid.
Chloe fallowed her gaze, "That mommy's friend."
Lily nodded to shy to speak in front of Aaron.
Chloe picked her daughter up, "Aaron this is Lily. Lily this is Aaron."

"Hey!" Aaron smiled at her. She seemed shy to him. He liked smaller children and was usually able to talk to them well. "I'm your mommy's friend, okay? I'm just here to help,"

"Hi." Lily said softly then looked down.
Chloe smiled softly at her daughter, "Aaron's going to help us. okay." Lily nodded, "Go to your room and pack up okay?"
Lily nodded and ran into her room.

"She's cute." Aaron said, smiling at Xhloe. "She looks like you." he didn't want to make it seem like it was not quite right to have a four-year-old daughter when you were sixteen.

Chloe nodded, "Thanks." she bit her lip looking at the clock, "We don't have much time before he gets here."

"How much?" Aaron asked looking at the clock too. "We shouldn't be cutting it too close."

"At least 20 minutes." she told him and trembled slightly.

"Let's pack all your stuff up." he said in a business-like manner.

Chloe nodded and lead her to a small room and mostly empty room. She didn't bother decorating it since she usually slept in Lily's room to get away from her step father, she just used it to hold her stuff. She quickly started to pack her things up. She looked up at Aaron, "Can you go check on Lily for me?"

"Okay." he said nodding. "Where is she? Upstairs?" he looked at the room and wondered whether she slept in here. It seemed too bare for somebody to sleep in here everyday.

"Ya. Second door on the right." Chloe said, it was safer for her daughter up there.

Aaron walked up the stairs to the room Chloe had mentioned.He opened the door oftly and looked inside. "Hi Lily." he said.

Lily's room was a soft pink color. She looked up at Aaron when he came in and held up her stuffed elephant, "Ellie can't fit in the bag." she said speaking to him longer than she did most people.

"Do you want me to hold Ellie?" he asked, smiling at her. "I promise I'll be really careful."

Lily bit her lip and gave him the stiffed elephant.

A car pulled out front, and Carl, Chloe's stepfather walked into the apartment. Chloe froze downstairs hearing the door open.
"Chloe!" He drunken voice yelled.

Lily jumped from the voice and grabbed Aaron's pant leg, scared.

"It's okay." Aaron said, patting her back. "Nothing's going to happen to you. Come on." he held the elephant in his arms and held Liily's bag in the other. He wanted to go down to Chloe as fast as possible. "Just stay close." he said to Lily.

Lily nodded and stayed close to Aaron as they went downstairs.

Chloe went into the living room and bit her lip. "Your-your back early." she stuttered.
He smiled and went to her and cupped her cheek, "Its your birthday. I thought we could celebrate." he said, his voice filled with lust.
She cringed when he pushed her against the wall, "Li-Li-Lily's upstairs..."
He kissed her neck messly, ignoring her protests.
She tried to push him off, but it was like pushing a brick wall.
"Carl, please." she begged as his hands trailed up her leg

Aaron stopped when he reached dowstairs. His mouth opened wide and for a second, he just stared. so that man's her stepfather. he thought. He had to do something. He handed Lily's bag and toy to her. "Stay here." he said sternly. "Don't move." he went towards the man. "What do you think you're doing." he demanded, hoping to grab his attention.

He turned to Aaron, anger in his eyes for being interrupted, "Who the fuch are you!"
Chloe tugged his arm afraid he would hurt Aaron, "Carl please, he.."
"And you." He whirled back to Chloe, slamming her head against the wall, "You know not to bring anyone here. Especially a boy."

"Just someone." Aaron said.He felt a surge of anger rush through him when the man slammed Chloe's head against the wall. He couldn't fight him, he knew that much. "You're supposed to be. like her father." he shouted. "How can you do this to her?!"

"I can do what I want." He roared, he was a little taller than Aaron.
Chloe whimpered from the pain in her head. She looked at Aaron shaking, "J-just go. I-I'll be fine."

"I'm not going to just go." Aaron said. He stared at the man right in the eyes with his chin pointing out. "You're not going to do that." he said simply. He didn't know if it was bravery or just plain stupidity.

He barked a laughed, "And who's going to stop me? You?" He stood closer to Aaron, "No kid is going to tell me what I can do."

"I could call the cops." Aaron said, ducking out of the way. "You can't stop me from doing that."

He pulled a gun from his waistband and aimed it at Aaron, "And who would they believe the adult or the dead kid?"

Chloe paled at the sight of the gun, "Just go." she whispered

Aaron blanched a little at the sight of the gun and backed off. He was running out of ideas. "Run." he mouthed to Chloe.

Chloe nodded and slid over to Lily, who was crying quietly. Chloe picked the girl up, "Shh. Its okay, baby."

He smirked at Aaron, not noticing Chloe moving. "What? Not so tough anymore?"

"You have a gun pointing at my head." Aaron said. "Anybody can do that. You don't have to be tough for it." he shrugged. "I'm still not scared o you." even though his hands were trembling.

Chloe went up behind Aaron holding Lily. She looked at her step father, "J-just put the gun down. We can talk a-about this..and."
He shot the gun and the bullet hit the wall a few inches from Aaron's face. "Shut up." he growled at Chloe, "And get upstairs."

Aaron winced horribly and shuddered. He looked at Chloe, telling her silently to leave. "Why don't you just shoot?" he said. "Why? because you'd have to get rid of my dead body?" his voice was raw with fear.

Chloe shook her head at Aaron, she wasn't leaving without him.

A neighbor heard the shot and had called the police.

Aaron suddenley heard the sound of a police vehchle. He turned a little bit to look out of the window.

He frowned hearing the shot, "Were not done here." He spat at them and quickly left through the back door.

((I don't mind either way but should I? Since you're already doing three characters?))

Aaron realized that he should stop himbut his legs felt like they'd turned to jelly. He looked at Chloe.

Chloe watched her step father leave. The only thing that kept her from breaking down, was Lily who was still crying.

The police burst into the house, their guns cocked up. "What happened here?" One of the men asked Aaron who was right in their line of sight. "Her stepfather...." he said gesturing towards Chloe. "He-he held a gun to my head."

Chloe stayed silent rocking Lily gently. She was afraid if she talked she would start crying. Besides she didn't want the police to take Lily away.

"Where did he go?" the man asked looking at Aaron sharply. "Out the back door." he gasped. The policeman cursed and went out the same way, two or three other men following him.

Chloe breathe a little easier with the police and her step father gone. "Are you okay?" she asked Aaron softly.

"Yeah....yeah...I'm fine." he said attempting a smile. "Just a little shcked, that's all."
