I didn't like Artie at all at first and to be honest I probably still fall into the dislike category but I've definitely changed my thoughts on her. If we know anything about these characters it's that nothing is what it seems. I think I will end up liking her because that's what SK does, and she does it well.I am a huge Ash fan but I'm sure he is not blameless, no one is perfect after all ;)
I didn't factor in her life and the people who might have hurt her but I do now. Apollo is an arse and I can imagine he has made Artie suffer in ways we can't even imagine yet, and of course their is the rest of her family!
Overall I don't particularly like her now but I think I will.
I really do not like Artemis. In some of the books, she has proven that she can truly love. I think that Artemis does a better job at showing her love to children than adults most of the time. I know she does have her moments with adults, however those are too far in between.I think the relationship with Ash and Artemis is both of their faults. Both had to deal with neglect and abuse throught out their lives. They are doing what they know, and most of it isn't healthy. Artemis with wanting to feel in control and have power over someone else and Ash resigned to deal with what he always has until Tory came along.
Even though Artemis is having more likable moments, I can't bring myself to want her to have a HEA yet. I think the only way I feel she will be completely redeemable is when she will offer souls back to the DH's without someone having to pay her price.
Glad you guys are enjoying yourselves. We want everybody to feel comfortable chatting it up in the threads.I also was not a huge fan of Artemis at first. I started out strongly disliking her but I'm more on the fence with her now and have been for a while. The only reason I truly didnt like her was her treatment of Ash (the beatings). I still haven't truly forgiven her of those. Everything else just shows how flawed she is. I love a good flawed, misunderstood character. I find them more relatable than a scarred hero. Once I realized that Ash was not a perfect person and he did as much damage to people around him, I had to look closely at Artemis. Half the things she's done and said, I don't think she means in the way we think and she doesnt know how to effectively express herself. She's working on it though. I haven't jumped on the Artemis bandwagon but I more open into learning more of her.
:-) And I think we can all agree that Artemis using the wrong phrases or mixing up her words is our favorite.
"Payback's a cat"
I have had an affinity for Artemis from day one. I can feel the abuse she has suffered and the whole being misunderstood. Her and Ash had no clue on how to love, let alone show it, how can one show love when one has never been given let alone see it? As for the bargain and it was a bargain set in magic on the giving back the soul is painful, not her fault it is what it is, I think her and Ash made that magical bargain in the mindset of having only experienced pain and brutality that that was what was offered for the return of the soul remember Ash back then was pretty low on the self esteem and only knew to offer his body for sex or beating. Bargained magic is not easily changed or I'm sure she wouldn't still be whipping Nick. As for sex and BDSM she was a virgin it was Ash taught her sex hello so if he didnt teach it to her she must have been on the receiving end from Apollo. That Apollo is one sick puppy. You know he damn sure hated his twin shagging the look alike he was so obsessed with. I know I've always been one of the few that could feel Artemis and continue to be her biggest fan.
@galina Zeus had babies killed and had his dream hunters tortured. he sent ren's mother away as a comet
Am I confusing something? I thought that Artemis was Julian's mother in book 1
and she was married. When Kyrian and Amanda showed up at Julian's house they were shocked to see him. But in the next couple of books I'm reading, there's no indication at all that Artemis is married. She's still being a slut pretending to be a virgin goddess. In fact, if she's supposed to be a virgin, how can Julian be her son?
Andrea wrote: "Am I confusing something? I thought that Artemis was Julian's mother in book 1

For me I really didnt have an issue with Artemis at the beginning. I thought she was just in love and willing to do whatever to keep Ash with her. Yes she seems a little manipulative at times but that really wasnt a reason for me to hate her right off the bat. I really started to not like her when I read Ash's book. She has humiliated him time and time again and seems to only use and hurt him. I think she has put him through way to much for me to like her. Plus he is my favorite character of course so I feel a little protective in a way..lol. I would love to read about her finding someone though and being happy. Maybe love could change her and I could like her again:) I have hope!
OOOOHHHHHH! thank you! I mixed up Artemis and Aphrodite. I haven't read Julian's book yet. I guess she'll stick in my mind better after I read it. But then, why wouldn't Kyrian be allowed in her presence? I thought that was only Artemis.

Kinda like he is "unworthy" of being in any of the pure bloods presence. All the gods are considered kind pure and perfect ya know:) If I'm wrong sorry but I think that was it:) Might just have to re-read them:):)
Yeah you pretty much got it, Jessie. None of the dark hunters are allowed in front of the Gods since they no longer have souls.
Shari-amor wrote: "Yeah you pretty much got it, Jessie. None of the dark hunters are allowed in front of the Gods since they no longer have souls."Great thanks:) I wasnt sure because it's been so long:)
*Bows* I am here to serve lol. Yeah its been awhile as well for me. I reread a couple of the earlier DH books when it strikes my fancy but its been awhile....I wanna say years in fact.
I've always loved Artemis. When she hurt Acheron, I only disliked her temporarily during the abuse, out of respect for Acheron. But then I went back to liking her again after the abuse was over; but then again I guess I'm more open. Because I love Zephyra...so..My reasons for liking Artemis are this:
She doesn't seem evil...she just has personality qualities that I see in all human beings, including myself and my own friends. Like selfishness, jealousy, anger, and afraid of what other people might think about her. I have been just as selfish as Artemis, just as jealous, just as angry, and just as cowardly. But I guess the reasons her actions have caused more damage than my own, is because of the environment she lives in, the culture she lives in, and the way in which she was raised.
I have kicked my own brother hard, who I love dearly for something really petty. It might of been that he didn't change the channel to my favourite tv station...no clue. But what I do know is that I kicked him because my brother wouldn't obey me the big sister, it was petty and immature and I don't do that anymore. I wonder if I was a Goddess and I was raised to believe that I was important...would I have kicked my brother harder because I had a stronger sense of being more important, and therefore deserving of more respect.
Even in educational institutions there are people who care what other people think. They bully other people out of fear of being seen as less, and so they want to exert their own power. They gossip to bring themselves up. They'll quickly make friends with the pretty girl with the warm smile, but not the average girl dork sitting in the corner. Of course I'm generalizing here, but it does exist. And sometimes these people who don't care about the dorky girl are going with peer pressure, and afraid of being seen as different.
I see these people as cowardly, and susceptible to peer pressure. But I also see them as normal people who may be decent inside but could be victims to low self esteem, and other problems.
I have had moments of selfishness, in fact most of the time I am more selfish than I am selfless. But luckily for me because of having less power compared to Artemis, less responsibility compared to Artemis(i.e dark hunters) and so forth...when I'm selfish it does way less damage than when Artemis acts selfish.
But I do not view them as evil as I do not view Artemis as evil.
Artemis seems to act exactly as anyone I know would act. But unlike us she's in an environment with higher stakes, so when she acts out the consequences are more costly. And also she was in a different time and era. This does not excuse her actions, as I do not excuse kicking my brother who was half my size at the time. But it does make me see her as a normal person most of the time...with a bit too much PMS.
Also and I have to go against the status quo here, but back when Acheron was moping over Artemis not saving him, and hating her for it. I wanted him to shut up. I was happy for him to whine about his pain, and whine about Apollo, and I gave him my support. But I cringed every time he whined about Artemis not saving him...
It felt like Apollo is controlling and abusive towards Artemis, and whilst it's not obvious enough for me to feel sorry for her. It is clear enough for me not to blame Artemis for backing down when it came to her brother.
Artemis also seems to have low self esteem. It's only an opinion and she doesn't give the typical responses of someone with low self esteem. But I theorize this because:
She seems to see herself as second place to her brother. Now I can analyze this and break down why I feel that way, but I wanna keep this short and since this is only opinionated and it's based on subtle evidence and foreshadowing I won't go into detail.
I want Artemis to have a guy who's strong enough to protect her. And who doesn't have bullshit attached to him. Like Acheron had the whole end of the world attached to him. She needs a man to protect her, not a man who needs her to protect him. Hopefully this man of hers will help her grow as a person, because Artemis has the capability to be a woman who commands respect from readers alike; and she hints at this when she's ready to take on her mother for Katra.
To Artemis I wish her the best of luck, because I know she's better than this. And hopefully with Apollo out of the picture she is more free to become the woman I know she can be.
Yes!!!! A thread about Artemis. Let me just say that I have always loved Artie's character. I know she is not perfect but I feel she acts like most of us would act and that's why I love her so much. I hope she gets her book soon because I think their is so much more to her than we think. 1. When I was first introduced to Artemis I liked her right away. Yes, she seemed selfish and uncaring but she but she was trying to fix a wrong.
2. My feelings for Artie have actually grown because she has done things that no one else was willing to do but had to be done. She also loves with a passion that others in her place would not have had. It also appears that she will be an important character at the end of everything.
3. Reading about how she grew up helps me understand why she acts how she does but she also has a heart for someone that was abused and neglected.
4. I don't think Ash was guiltless in the way that his and Artie's relationship progressed. Ash had many issues and I think we forget that Artie helped him become stronger and defiant. He was such a submissive when they met and Artie helped him. Ash also did not treat Artie one hundred percent right he missed his daughters birth and childhood because he was mad at her. Artie did horrible things but I have learned that haven't seen everything maybe our eyes will be enlighten when we get Artie's book.
5. All of Artie's moments are hilarious, she is a character that always makes me laugh even though sometimes I feel it is overdone.
I will always be a fan of Artie and I hope she gets someone strong and powerful that will make her feel loved and protected.
Adoore wrote: "Yes!!!! A thread about Artemis. Let me just say that I have always loved Artie's character. Artie tried to tell Ash he was a father and totally bungled it.
First she screeches in his head that she needs to talk to him (never says why), then finally appears to him with the child in her arms.
The way she stated she had a child for him sounded like she was offering him a child someone had left for her as an offering. She never explicitly told him that the child was a baby they had made together when she offered Kat to Ash. (Pg 120/121 Devil May Cry hardcover)
She has made up for some of her mistakes, but she's got a long road before most people could fully forgive her. At least she's trying to become better and despite her flaws was never maliciously cruel like Apollo.
1. What were your feelings toward Artemis when you were first introduced to her!?She seemed okay.
2. Have your feelings changed or stayed the same!? If they have changed, what moment changed your perception of her!? If not, what more would you like to see from her!?
My feelings have changed...she's crazy! I think she's so naive she doesn't understand what love is. That naivety got Ash hurt a lot. She's also cruel but strangely kind at times....it's confusing. But I find her messing up her words brings a smile to my face.
3. Do you factor in the neglect and ill treatment from Apollo, Leto (her mother) and Zeus when you consider how she treats some people!? Does not having the love she should have had make her more sympathetic to you!?
Artemis is abused by her own brother....it made me wonder if she did some of the things she did to Ash in order to stop herself from being abused more. And it made me wonder just how bad her abuse really is, and how much she keeps silent. Sherrilyn once said she likes Artemis but is still mad with her and isn't ready to give her a book yet.
4.Do you believe Ash was guiltless in his and Artie's relationship!? Why or why not!?
I'm not sure. I thought Ash was guiltless in his relationship with Styxx....until I read Styxx. There are two sides to every story. Yours, theirs, and the truth which lies somewhere in the middle.
5. Artemis definitely has some hilarious moments. And has said the darndest things. What are your favorite Artie moments or phrases!?
Can't think of any at the moment. What goes up must come sideways is all I can think of.
Not really about DH, but I'm reading
, and something about the crippled husband's writing success is constantly referred to as "the Bitch-Goddess".There was Clifford's success: the bitch-goddess! (Somewhere near the middle-end of chapter 5.)
We know Sherri is well read regarding mythology, but how about in the classics? I never expected to see this particular phrase in a classic novel.

Ha, that is interesting Myst. I have always been interested in reading Lady Chatterley's Lover given how good I was told it was once. But now I have to.
Dhfan4life wrote: "Myst wrote: "Not really about DH, but I'm reading

(I think my copy was actually printed in the UK, and it's definitely labelled a Penguin Classic.
Myst wrote: "Dhfan4life wrote: "Myst wrote: "Not really about DH, but I'm reading

Dhfan4life wrote: "In other news and what feels like many days later. I finally finished

I know most folks aren't big ..."After hearing a guy from penguin do a book buzz with this book, it did make its way onto my list of books to look into. I don't read much "general fiction" but it actually made me sit up and listen instead of tuning the dude out.
Other books coming out for 'general fiction' that actually sounded intriguing were

Oh snap, I totally didn't realize this wasn't the what's on your nightstand thread. And yea I think I have seen Fifth Petal being advertised. I read the Lace Reader umpteen years ago. But not sure how I feel about reading a sequel some years later. And yea Small Great Things is definitely something else. General Fiction not my usual thing either. But sometimes we need something a little different to cleanse our pallets at times.

I'll ask one last time to be respectful, you will be warned if I feel you are attacking not just each other but the character as well. All views, opinions and oppositions are welcome. ;-)
