This is the discussion thread for the fourth part of The Better Angels of Our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined.

Chapter 5: The Long Peace

This chapter gets into a lot of statistics, which I really enjoyed. I was really interested in the bias towards the present in remembering violence, and how common it is for past atrocities to be discounted or completely forgotten.

I wasn't as interested in the nationalism theories. It seems like common sense that as people grow to hate war, democracies would go to war less since in theory their population should have a say.
