His bag's straps rattled as he ran.
A growling stomach impeded his progress. Hmm, he should probably eat first.
He went outside and to the main house.
He collided with somebody who was standing right by the door. "Sorry," he mumbled.
[It can be anybody. Just, you know, whoever was standing right by the door. :)]
[Oh, definitely North, right? :D]
North jumped back and then glared. What was it with this guy and running into her? She tilted her chin, looking at him angrily. "Do you have it in for me or something? Or do you just not care?"

Lucas stared. What was her problem? It was an accident. He'd said sorry, what more could he do? He didn't need to explain himself.
Wait, she looked familiar...
"What's your name?"
North tried her best to think up a scathing reply. She was glad that Thorn wasn't there. He would probably be really mad at Lucas, considering how he was always so overprotective. She crossed her arms. "North. Same as it was the last several times you ran into me or snapped my head off." Or was just plain rude.

He'd what? Oh, yeah. He remembered something about that...
Well, no point saying sorry again.
Lucas shrugged and waited in line for food.
"Do you know what we're having?"
[FYI, I'm going to be off for a while for lunch and RL activities. :)]
[Okay, that's fine. :D]
Well, of all the... North snorted and turned around, determined to ignore him. If only Esme were here, but her roommate wasn't awake yet.

Lucas felt his face go red. But only for a second. He didn't care what she thought of him. At least, he shouldn't. The pang of being brushed off stuck with him a bit longer than he deemed necessary.
And it didn't help matters when he turned his head. A massive blackboard was tacked to the wall. Loopy handwriting was splayed across it in some sort of order. He guessed it a list of food available for breakfast.
And it sizzled out in time with his rapidly increased heartbeat.
He clenched his pack straps and looked around. Someone else. Good.
"Hey, do you know what we're having?" His voice sounded louder and harsher than it had in his head.

Hmph. Too bad he didn't care what she thought, but she turned around when she heard what the other girl said. She noticed the blackboard and moaned softly, running a hand through her hair. Why? Was it going to be like this every day? She turned around and hurried to the serving lady. "I'm sorry, could I just have a piece of toast and some fruit?"
The lady eyed her. "Honey, you don't need to lose any weight. You're already as skinny as a fence pole. The bacon's delicious, I can get you some of that..."
North shook her head. "Oh, no, I don't eat meat." She gave the lady her sweetest smile, and the lady nodded slowly and headed off to get North's food.

While he waited, he drummed his fingers against some poles that held boxes of utensils. He swiped a fork and twirled it in his fingers.
And North still wasn't...wait, had she just said that...she didn't...like...bacon? Or meat? At all?!
If he ate only toast and fruit, he wouldn't last until lunch.
He stared at North, wondering if her madness extended to anything beyond eating habits.
North thanked the serving lady as she excepted her plate back. She slid into a chair at the nearest empty table and focused on her food. Oh, what she wouldn't give to make her own food. She'd starve away to nothing if they made meat at every meal. She sighed and dug into her fruit.

"I overheard someone say there's going to be pancakes tomorrow. Do you eat pancakes?" She held out her hand, "Cadence, year three. Terrane."
North shook hands with her. "North, year one. I'm in Pyre." It still felt weird to say, but finally someone nice, other than Esme and Thorn. "I do, thanks."
North stabbed a grape with her fork. "I'm liking it quite a bit. My roommate's nice. And I already know my way around the grounds and everything because my brother's a year four."

He debated whether or not to smile, then decided against it. He wasn't THAT happy about it. Besides, he was sure the serving lady saw that he was sincere.
She laughed. "Sure, hon."
With his heaped plate, Lucas headed to a table. He ate on the way and was a quarter of the way through with the food before he sat down.
He paused mid-bite. Was Stephan here?
Lucus swallowed and looked around.
[Do they have color coded uniforms? Or no??]
[No, just their usual clothes, but I think they might have to wear badges or wristbands or something. Maybe the year one students get tattoos or something? Any thoughts?]
North swallowed a piece of melon. "That's really sweet." Her own dad was overprotective, even more so than Thorn, but he didn't do anything like that for her.

"Yes. I'm closer to my father than I am with my mother." She picked up her empty cup and started to stand, "I'd better get going. It was so nice meeting you! I'll see you around."

Stephan had arrived early to the cafeteria, as usual. He'd planned to get his food and then wait for Lucas to arrive. Unfortunately, though the first part of the plan had gone perfectly, the latter half had been derailed by- what else?- a book. At the moment, he sat in the back of the cafeteria, his eggs, fruit, and half his bacon forgotten and cooling on his plate.
[Yes on the tattoo question, Princess Emilia. ;) And Sarah, which one do you like better?]
North waved goodbye to Cadence and focused on her food. It wouldn't take her long to eat. She needed to find some way to get more food than this.

Lucas spotted Stephan after a couple of scans around the room. He downed a glass of milk and refilled it before heading over. He sat down with a light thunk. "Are you going to eat those?"
Why or how anyone could forget about food as good as this was beyond his understanding.
He opened his pack and grabbed a canister he'd snuck off of concession table.
Dark red and black flakes settled onto what was left of his cheese-covered eggs.
[I feel totally dumb asking this, but...it is "concession table" and not something else, right? :P]
[Hmm, I have no clue! It makes sense. :P And I like the wristband idea, maybe with a scanning type-thing to get into classrooms specifically for their group.]
North stood up hurriedly when she realized what time it was. She wouldn't be late to class, but she wanted to be early, so she hightailed it to the Pyre training room.

((And I guess concession table works?))
"Hmm?" Stephan blinked and looked up from his book. "Oh. Good morning. And . . . not most of it, probably. Leave some of the bacon and fruit for me." He read another page before semi-reluctantly putting the book in his bag. "Sleep well?"
((I'm creating a poll for the ID thing. And also, classes should be starting about now, so...))
The buzz of the alert system telling the students to get to class rang out through the grounds and in the houses, causing a stampede to the training rooms.

Esme hurried through the line, asking the lunch lady for just fruit and toast. "Another non-meat eater too?" the lady asked. Confused, Esme just nodded.
An alarm blared, causing Esme to nearly drop her plate. Why did she have to sleep in? And why did Tal have to make such a mess?
Without sitting down, stuffed the toast slice in her mouth with a couple of orange slices. She looked down at her food, still a little fruit left that she didn't have time to eat.
Reluctantly, Esme left the rest of her food and hurried off to find her class.

"Mm-hhhe. He-ha hmmen-ha." (What he was trying to say was, "Okay. See you later.")
Lucas ran out the door. Dang it, and he'd gotten up early, too!
Yes, he wasn't supposed to run with food in his mouth, but he didn't want to be late.
While he ran, he held his breath and swallowed the last bits of whatever was in his mouth.

"Mmph? Oh yeah sure, remember last year." She said through a mouthful of bacon. "Yes, but I don't particularly like being late, even if the teacher is always is." Thorn sighed, pushed back his chair and raised his eyebrows at Naina who was still crunching on her bacon. "Oh fine, whatever this means i get to eat in class." She grabbed a few pieces of toast and stood, sighing grumpily. "Ah come on don't be like that Naina, let's go." Thorn dragged the very reluctant redhead behind as they exited the cafeteria.
