Rachael My son loves adventure and fighting, heroes and magic and I was just wondering if he was too young for me to read these to him? He is nearly six years old, but very advanced for his age..

Any advice on when I should start this series would be very appreciated.

Reece There is a fair amount of descriptive violence, but other than that I would say it's fine. If you think he wouldn't be uncomfortable with the imagery used during the battles.

Rachael Ah very good thank you... He's a right little man so I think he'll be fine (I think I'm more excited though) Thanks!

Wren I love this book!

Rachael I must admit, it does look amazing... the title, the cover the description... all look brill!

Shea Personally, I would say that you should be at least 13 to read this series... it is pretty dark in places. 6 is far, far too young.

Easily the worst I could say for the first book are the curse words employed. They don't appear very often though, and it doesn't get particularly bad until the later books in the series.

Shea I should clarify my previous statement: I think that perhaps 9 to 10 is a good minimum age for the first few books, but the series becomes considerably darker as it progresses, which is the reason why I recommended 13 for the whole series. Though, in retrospect 13 does seem a little high; perhaps 12 is a better minimum.

nekku It's a good book, but yeah. 6 might be too young. 9 is a good age for it, I think.

Age does matter. Not everyone is Valkyrie, and Val was 12 when she started out with the violence and danger and dark themes. To be safe, in case your child gets too influenced with the morals and ethics in the book or the violence.

anya i frickin love skulduggery and i started reading these when i was 11 but i think children should read these when they're 9 because it is very imaginative and creative for them.

Rachael wow thanks everyone. he's 7 next week lol... think I'll leave it another couple of years to start

Shax786 in my oppinion this book is ok but may frighten or mentally effct your child(not trying 2 be mean) this book contains violence and other freaky stuff but as a parent i think that you should try the books yuourself then decide wheter or not you wasnt your child reading this (awesome) book. You may think this book is VERY volent but it is very sarcastice due to the walking talking sekeleton but like i prviously said its your choice xo hope this helped.

Krishav I love the skulduggery books and I think that this book should be for ages 10 plus

Isabella Why is everyone saying that it's ok for a 6 year old to be reading this?! This book has dark disturbing things with really inappropriate parts! Please don't let a 6 year old read this!

message 15: by Isabella (new)

Isabella I absolutely LOVE the book, but it definitely should be 11+. It is dark and has mild inappropriateness.

message 16: by Isabella (new)

Isabella As I saw some people saying, age DOESN'T matter! That's just ridiculous. This book is not for six year olds. He will not understand it and it is inappropriate for that age! Have you even read the books?! There are swears in them! But I guess let's just teach our six year olds swears then.
