Darn. I was reading this in hopes that others had commented. I am about to start the book and wanted a general idea of them.
They are some very colorful characters and vastly interesting Aria. Colorful in only the ways in which SK can do them. :)
Definitely a fine time to catch up. And also a note of warning, things are pretty intense and quite heavy for Styxx's journey at times. Even in regards to Beth. But there is truly some great info to be had. And you might even wind up liking Styxx more than you originally though. I and I think many others surprised themselves by doing so.
Nekoda's last name is Anaxkolasi. I remember reading that Kolasi is the greek name for Kalosis (I think Styxx uses it and it raised some questions when his book came out about wether or not it was a typo). I looked up "Anax" and it means "leader" or "king". So, basically, her last name translates to "ruler of the Atlantean Realm of the Dead". Do any of you remember if Anaxkolasi is a last name Beth or Styxx chose in any of the books? Or if that was Styxx last name when he was still mostly human? I'm wondering if it's one Kody picked out herself at some point in her lifetime. It might be a clue about her life.
Anaxkolasi is the surname that Styxx chose for himself; he first uses it in his book when Tory asks for his address so that she can send a thank you note for his gift to Sebastos. =)That's interesting, what you came up with in your research, Marie. It's pretty darn close to what Tory had to say about it (she stated that it meant "King of Hell", if I remember correctly).
Apparently, the name stuck. XD

Well it's mostly thanks to you. I read your Facebook/Tidbits thread and learned Kody's full name. With Kolasi in it, I started to wonder.
At any rate, that was some darn good sleuthing. =)What I find REALLY interesting is that according to this pic on FB ...

... apparently Urian adopts the surname, too. =)
So maybe all the kids adopted that surname?
Probably. I mean, I don't know what passes for education in that family but they'd need to call themselves SOMETHING if they wanted their kids to get into the public school system
So Jeros sprang out of Monakribos' blood and is considered his son. But the lilit demons were made from Lilith's blood and Falcyn referred to them as Lilith's sisters. So what does that mean for Bathymaas? Was she Rubati's sister or her daughter?
I'm sorry if this is long, but I've been thinking about this a lot and I need to get it all out.I've been thinking on the curse Hera put on Apollo and Artemis, and how Beth decided to rule in Hera's favor on the matter. I can't be the only one who was baffled at learning her decision, right? Beth does not strike me as the type to recommend that children pay for their parents' sins. I was trying to understand her reasoning because it didn't seem just, and we're talking about a goddess of justice. But then I thought about how the absence of a heart might have affected her decisions.
Without any understanding of the emotions and expectations in a relationship, marriage ends up looking very different. From an outsider's perspective, it probably seems more like an agreement of mutual ownership. A wife and a husband own each other, which would make Leto a trespasser. If you think about it that way, then it might seem like Hera was well within her rights to seek damages. Since Leto gained from her trespass, in the form of two children, then Hera is justified going after them for "compensation".
But a marriage isn't owning someone else. It's a relationship. The real issue wasn't Leto trying to steal Zeus away or "trespassing" on Hera's man. The problem was in Hera and Zeus's failure of a relationship. By siding with Hera, Beth inadvertently gave Zeus a get-out-of-jail free card when it comes to cheating and also gave Hera free reign to rain hell on any of his lovers. It might have created a precedent. Think about that. Leto is a goddess. Her children are gods. There is only so much Hera could do against them. But human women? What god is going to go against Hera to defend the human cattle? How many women, and their children, were probably killed as a result?
If anyone ever comes after Beth, saying that she can't perform her duties as Justice because she's been corrupted by her heart, I hope someone will point out that a heart might have given her a better understanding. Up till now, her judgement was impaired. Her objectivity did not make her infallible.

You know, I've been thinking about that same thing since I read their story, the whole thing with Hera and the curse she put on Artemis and Apollo seemed incredible unfair to me, and I just couldn't understand Bathymaas reasoning; but what you just said about her not understanding what marriage entails explains everything.
And what you said about objectivity ≠ infalibility is spot on.
Does anybody remember how long it took for Aricles to be reborn as Styxx? Cuz' I seem to remember him promising to find her again "even if it took a thousand lifetimes" (I might be confusing it with another book) and now I'm wondering if it LITERALLY took a thousand generations of his descendants before he was reborn.
Does anybody remember anything about the word "Belam" or "Bellam" associated with Bethany or Bathymaas? I seem to remember reading it and thinking "that must be where Kody's name comes from" but I'm not sure where. Maybe in that sentence that's often engraved on Beth's temples or in something she said or one of the concepts she represents as a goddess...I might be hallucinating, but I'm at least completely certain I'm not confusing it with "Bellum"

According to Caleb it means The Huntress, but that's basically all that has been said about it, I guess it was a title Bet held when she was Bathymaas.

The identical twin brother of Acheron, Styxx was born to wealth and power. The daughter of the Egyptian god Set and the Atlantean goddess Symfora, Bethany was raised in the Atlantean pantheon as their goddess of Wrath, Misery and the Hunt. They can be discussed not just as a couple but also as individuals. I would ask everyone be respectful in discussing each of the characters and to not belittle or put down another person's views. Agree to disagree if it comes to it.

Questions
1. What were your feelings toward Styxx when you were first introduced to him!? What about Bethany!?
2. Have your feelings changed in regards to either character!?If they have changed, what was the defining moment, that you saw either of the characters differently? If not, what more would you like to see from them, either as individuals or as a couple?
3. Reading about Styxx's life from his point of view, you begin to understand what/who has shaped him as a character. Before meeting Bethany, Galen (his hoplomachos) was the only positive influence in his life. Galen was more a father figure than Xerxes. Do you believe Styxx would have been a different person, a different warrior if Galen was not there? Would he have been less receptive of Bethany!?
4. In finding out that Hector is really Styxx, the Prince of Didymos and her enemy, Bethany believes despite her feelings and on account of who she really is, it is best to leave him. Did you agree with her decision!? Did you understand where she was coming from!? If not, do you believe her decision would have been different if Styxx was not the prince!?
5. Now that Styxx and Acheron have seemingly reconciled, do you believe they will have as close of a relationship as they had when they were children!?
6. There were many secrets kept from both Styxx and Bethany regarding their pasts including their past incarnations and what really happened to their son, Galen. Why do you believe people felt it necessary to keep this information from them!? Do you think they would have been able to handle it at the time!?
7. Now that they are aware, what do you expect to see from them!? Do you think Bethany will resume her duties as the goddess of wrath, misery and the hunt!? Do you believe it possible she can remain objective as the original goddess of justice!? What do you think Styxx will be like as a Chthonian!?
8. As with all our favorite characters, we just love some of the crazy things that come out of their mouths. What are some favorite sayings or quotes that either Bethany or Styxx has said that has really had you going in tears of laughter, or in a heartfelt moment as well.
I'll ask one last time to be respectful, you will be warned if I feel you are attacking not just each other but the character as well. All views, opinions and oppositions are welcome. ;-)
