World War Two had ended recently, and the Professor had a problem. The four children he had taken care of during the war were missing. He hadn't seen them in a year, although he had been looking for them frantically the whole time. Eventually, he had to move out without them, although he feels like he dreadfully failed the Pensive's parents now.

Lucy stepped out of the wardrobe. "Hello, Professor, are you there?" she asked as her eyes skimmed up and down the hall. There used to be furniture there, but now the only furniture she could see was the wardrobe. This didn't make any sense; they had been positive that no time passed in their house when they were in the wardrobe, but apparently that was not the case.
She heard some people talking down the hall in a different room, but she couldn't tell what they were saying. She definitely knew neither of the voices were the Professor's, though. They walked out of the room into the hall, both of them hoisting one end of a couch-shaped object covered by a blanket. Lucy darted back into the wardrobe and ran to go tell Susan what had happened.
"Susan, Susan!" she shouted as she ran, her cheeks rosy from the cold. "What is it, Lucy?" Susan asked after Lucy practically ran into her. "Professor isn't in the house anymore, and two new people were moving furniture around, and..." Lucy said, getting faster and faster as she talked more. Susan seemed to understand, somehow, and she cut Lucy off before she talked too much. "So, what you're saying is Professor isn't there anymore? If that's what you're saying, it would probably be good to stay here for a while." Lucy nodded.

The Pensives, along with the other natives of Narnia, built a small town to live in, since they would be there for a while. Although there aren't many surprises in Narnia anymore, surprises still happen.
