What books do you consider comfort reads - the books you return to over and over throughout the years because they are familiar and good and have that special place in your heart that never fades? Do these books remind you of a specific era in your life?

Cindy | 16 comments My all time favs, that I like to reread are Wuthering Heights & Little Women. I'm interested to see what other people say so I can maybe add some books to my list.

taylor (twoods93) | 16 comments She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb. Every time I return I find comfort in knowing what will happen, however I always pick up on something new. Delores Price has a very special place in my heart.

Claire (addlibrarian) I have so many! The Blue Castle, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Ella Enchanted, Mara, Daughter of the Nile, and Freckles are a few of my favorites. :-)

Cookie (bookcupidity) I'm weird, obviously, as I rarely re-read! I would say the one book that I have read, probably three or four times since my childhood is Bridge to Terabithia.

Cookie (bookcupidity) Oh, I can't believe how totally and completely I lied. I do have a book I read over and over and recommend over and over and lend out over and over.

Last Days of Summer

Forgive me Steve Kluger. I was having an off day with my brain.

Courtnie, your reads always make so happy! I adore Bridge to Terabithia - it is so colorful and well-written and heartwrenching. It's what set me on my Newberry kick!

Jessica Steele is my comfort read of choice... Almost any of her 90+ books are excellent re-reads for me, but if I was forced to choose, I'd say The Sister Secret and its sequel Wife In Waiting.

I think Bridge to Terabithia was a turning point for me as a reader. I remember being so proud of myself for finishing it without being forced to (I remember I was in 4th grade!) for a book report or whatnot in school. It was the first book that I thought, 'hey, this reading thing is cool!' and not just because the librarians say so. I didn't really grow up with a family of readers, so I had to kinda figure it out on my own. But yeah, It is so good for the reasons you say :)

I just put a Jessica Steele on hold as I've never read one of hers...and I had to laugh because I didn't have many to choose from that weren't in large print ;)

Karen (kgilson) | 44 comments I have a few. Jane Austen is something I read almost yearly. The other is the Anne of Green Gables series by L.M. Montgomery. The Scarlet Pimpernel is another book I will read frequently. I will also get on a classic mystery kick and re-read Agatha Christie even though I know how all the books end.

I'm going to have to say Harry Potter Boxset would be my all time favorite re-read. They flow so easily and I can read most of them within a day of starting them. I think that is the only book(s) that I have read at least 4 times each. And I will probably add to that statistic. Other than those I only re-read a book if it's sequel has been a long time coming. I have way too many books on my "to read shelf" to try and re-read books. ;)

I used to have comfort reads but now I have so many new ones to read I don't have time to go back and re-read

I also liked re-reading the Harry Potter books, but I do audio, so it takes at least a week for each book when you listen! I re-read Jennifer Arnold's Through a Dog's Eyes a couple times. I always learn something new that I missed before.
