I've read the first 20 or so pages. I'm enjoying it so far. (:

I'm going to read a little more of Hunger and then I'll read some of this. I'm having a GREAT reading day so far! Mostly been good other than some NASCAR and football and text messages from my twin grand daughters whose 18th birthday is on Halloween. Sierra has found what she wants me to get her as an early gift. LOL

:) I have loved early birthday gifts!

Anyway, I finished chapter 1 (view spoiler)[ It's sad that she's tried this hard to be their friends, but no one seems to want to be her friend. But it's such an ultimate decision to commit suicide. (hide spoiler)]

and wow (view spoiler)[ you would think they'd join clubs - book clubs, 4-h, swim club - SOMETHING to help her find friends. She has to have something she likes to do that someone else likes to do! I hate that her parents don't appear to know anything is up. I'd notice if my kids didn't have friends running in and out of the house. (hide spoiler)]

ultimate decision (view spoiler)[ suicide, to me, is one of the most frightening things as a parent. It's just such a SCARY "End all" thing. You have to try to watch for signs, try to see it before it happens.

I want to hug this girl and tell her "NO! The realworld isn't like highschool. You can pick your friends, pick your job and have a good life. Stick around, it gets better AFTER high school." Sadly, I don't know if she'd listen (hide spoiler)]

I'm more curious about the title though, and how it will all weave in together!

I feel for Elise! What makes this especially disturbing is that this is REALISTIC fiction.

Ch. 1 (view spoiler)[Suicide is the ONLY option to impressionable young people who often see their problems as simply having no way out/no answer. It is particularly disturbing that, as Trisha said, she tries SO hard and still has no friends. The problem is she is looking in all the wrong places. She needs to find people with like minds, which is where the music I think comes in. (hide spoiler)]

Ch. 2-5: (view spoiler)[Just as she realized that she didn't truly want to die and called for help, so many others who try to commit suicide have that same experience but don't make that call. :o( I am glad that she did and I'm glad that she had the chance to meet Vicky and Pippi. I think they will possibly be real friends for her. Char handed her a "job" and said he believes in her and so she stepped up to the plate. She was elated that she could make people happy. I was so happy for her! I'm thinking that DJing might be where the music comes in to really help her. Maybe she'll even become "popular" as a DJ. (hide spoiler)]

There is always someone better than us and someone worse (or a lot of someones!). I am so happy that Elise (view spoiler)[found Chava and Sally to be friends with, even though they are less popular than even she is. I don't like that the only interest they have is the popular kids. (hide spoiler)]

Elise's dad (view spoiler)[I'm glad that he seems to be supportive of Elise and bought her the mixer without grilling her. But I am disappointed that Elise lied to her dad. The lie of omission or commission is still a lie. (hide spoiler)]

My least favorite quality about Elise so far is that she (view spoiler)[said she does whatever people tell her to do when she is specifically told to do something. NOT good!!! I hope that doesn't come back to bite her in the butt later! (hide spoiler)]
