Why?
Why is the sky still blue?
Why does the sun still shine?
The earth should be standing still
Knowing I just lost you.
Why do I see smiling faces?
Why does laughter reach my ears?
The world should be in mourning
In dark and lonely places.
Why are there children playing?
Why do they squeal with joy?
Don't they even want to hear
What my broken heart is saying?
Why do the flags still fly?
Why do they wave to me?
Shouldn't they all be at half-mast
Knowing that love just died?
Why is the sky still blue?
Why does the sun still shine?
The earth should be standing still
Knowing I just lost you.
Why do I see smiling faces?
Why does laughter reach my ears?
The world should be in mourning
In dark and lonely places.
Why are there children playing?
Why do they squeal with joy?
Don't they even want to hear
What my broken heart is saying?
Why do the flags still fly?
Why do they wave to me?
Shouldn't they all be at half-mast
Knowing that love just died?
He boasts of triumphs he has made
And well-made plans that he has laid;
He flaunts the wealth he has procured
And all the hardships he's endured.
His fame and fortune opened doors
To countless tangible rewards,
But when his life drew to an end,
He left this world without a friend.
