What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

This is a book I read as a child around 1999-2002 and I got it from our local library, so I'm assuming it wasn't new. The story is told by a pig that travels the world with a circus that is run by himself and a few other animals, they all wear clothes and behave like humans (humans don't exist in this book). The entire troupe gets invited to another pig's house - this one is a wealthy lady who lives in a large mansion. From there on the book gets much darker but also very, very thrilling


(*SPOILER WARNING*: the main pig finds out that the wealthy pig lady is by no means just being friendly to him and his friends, instead she intends to eat them, and they have to escape from the house).



Being from Germany, I read this book in German, but it might have been a translation. I remember it to be almost too dark for a kid but also very exciting, I think it was intended for children of eight or nine.

Freddy the Pied Piper from the Freddy the Pig series could be it.

I don't think it is, the story doesn't sound a bit like what I remember about it. But thank you anyway!

Yes, I am, and no, it is not The Piggest Show on Earth, which I think is a picture book? The book I'm looking might have had pictures in it, but it was not a picture book.

Sma, does the story start with the pig wanting to join a circus, or is he already in the circus?
What does the pig do in the circus? Does he have a special talent/act?
