I went and checked out "Steal My Heart" after reading your post. It seems to be something I would read so I added it to my TBR list. Thanks for the recommendation.

Sonya Heaney I haven't read her books yet, either. However, I did buy this one the other day: Hello, Darkness by Sandra Brown

message 7: by Laura (new)

Laura | 3 comments Sandra Brown's are ALL good. Karen Robards are also enjoyable in this same genre.

message 8: by Laura (new)

Laura | 3 comments Great! Hope you enjoy it. Linda Howard's are good too.

Bob Rector | 11 comments So male writers are not allowed into this club. Not feeling the love, ladies.

message 10: by Sonya (new)

Sonya Heaney Of course they are. However, I've not come across many male romantic suspense writers. In fact, I can only remember reading books by one male author whose books are sold as ROMANTIC suspense.

This guy: M.L. Buchman

With the Muscle Guy covers! The Night Is Mine (The Night Stalkers, #1) by M.L. Buchman I Own the Dawn (The Night Stalkers, #2) by M.L. Buchman Wait Until Dark (The Night Stalkers, #3) by M.L. Buchman

Glad to hear it Dianne! Pretty sure you'll enjoy Linda Howard's then too. :)

I like books which are a mixture of horror and romance or apocalyptic novels mingled with romance. I think it makes them more real.

message 13: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Williams | 34 comments I really enjoyed One Man's Island by Thomas Wolfenden. It's an apocalyptic suspense book with a good dash of romance thrown in.

It's hard to get the mix right and I would be interested to see how romantic suspense mixes with horror though I think I have read and enjoyed one of your books Tarian. 'Reflections' springs to mind.

Hi Jackie I'm glad you enjoyed Reflections which I wrote under the name Elizabeth Wixley. Mixing in Horror with Romance might sound a strange mix but I think it makes everything more realistic.

message 15: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Williams | 34 comments That is interesting Dianne and when I started out I never even thought about it but I have noticed that my romances do have a recurring theme.

My heroes are never bad guys. I can't make them bad. If they were they wouldn't be a hero. They are always good Alpha males. They don't need moulding or changing, they just need a whole lot loving! There are bad circumstances thrown up (or an actual baddie) over which they have to prove their worth to their heroine.

I also don't like leaving things to the police to clear up. When my baddie gets caught I want my hero to dish out his own kind of justice. Most satisfying.

Sandy Appleyard (sandyappleyard-author) | 4 comments If I can jump in here. I love romantic suspense. I'm a huge Nicholas Sparks fan, but I found his books didn't have enough suspense and somebody always dies in his books. So I tried some historical romance; Philippa Gregory, hers are wonderful, but again, not enough suspense. I also tried John Grisham; lots of suspense but not a lot of romance. Hence, I started writing my own romantic suspense. But again, a writer needs to read to feed the imagination. Any recommendations on good romantic suspense authors?

Dianne, I started reading Sandra Brown last night. It seems she's a very talented writer. However, it's too early to tell if she has the nice balance of romance and suspense. I'll keep you posted :)

I think genre or sub-genre have gone out of hand. We are putting books into boxed and I think it is mainly a marketing technique but it has made a lot of books (not all) very 'samey.' We will soon have a sub genre like 'vampires with blue eyes and who are left-handed but do not use the left to use the remote control' soon if we go on like this.

How about books that cross genres? They are the best...

Granddaughter of a loving, but roguish businessman, Blis Dumas can’t escape a legacy of lies. The time is 1989. The place is San Francisco, where painful stories of gentrification, eviction and relocation still echo within its limits. Clinging desperately to the Victorian home she inherited, she is confronted by a stranger that brings her a life filled with revenge, corruption, and murder.

In an unparalleled twist of fate, she discovers that her predicament may have roots buried much closer to home.

Blis’ world starts to crumble as she fights the Bureau to save the home she adores; fights the temptation of an incorrigible former lover; and fights the peril threatening the tender passion of a new and budding romance. QUIVER OF THE PURE HEART will appeal to readers that appreciate a social setting that illuminates the universal themes of desire, forgiveness, revenge, and letting go.
San Francisco is one of the loves of Blis’ life, and like any love relationship, it is where her emotions will be tested, where romance will live and die, and where people are not always as they seem. Burnita Bluitt offers a spirited and passionate story of love and corruption in the city by the bay.
