October '13 - Gothic read

Honestly, I'm struggling with this too - looks like Gothic reads don't stick around on our 'TBR' shelves long enough to get dusty ;)
Yes, I think any Gothic books I have, have long since been read and don't qualify as dusty! In the rather scholarly introduction to my book that I read tonight, they do explain that the Victorian ghost story differs from the Gothic stories that were popular before them. The Victorian ghost story is less melodramatic, more realistic (well, as realistic as a supernatural story can be!), and more likely to occur in a more domestic setting, even though the first one I read (by Elizabeth Gaskell!) took place in a manor house, but it wasn't an ancient Venetian palazzo or set centuries earlier!
I am going to attempt to get to Dracula, some Edgar Allen Poe stories, and maybe Frankenstein. I think at last one of those will count. ;) I'll look it up later. My library system is doing a lot of Edgar Allen Poe events this month, so I am excited to dig out my collected works.
Dracula, Poe and Frankenstein... good choices :D I may have some Poe around when I think about it.
Okay, so it would seem most people don't let their gothic reads stay on the bookshelves long enough to get dusty :P
Pity, but it just goes to show what my falling for the cliches turns out like :S
Fingers crossed for next month's read!

With the weather up in this hemisphere starting to cool down consider this yet another excuse to not have to go out into the horrible wet stuff predicted to appear in the next few days :)
Grab a book, grab a blanket and save all the halloween sweets for yourselves ;D (not that I do that of course... honest!)
