Based on the sample available from Amazon, the first chapter make me want to read the book by giving me questions to have answered and an interesting premise to have them answered through.
The first chapter, while being mainly set-up, makes for an interesting beginning to a story. The reader is left with several questions. Such as:
Why did Jack need to kill Nobody's family?
What is Silas?
What food does Silas eat (it mentions he eats only one thing)?
Who is the Lady on the Grey? Is she the personification of Death (as it implies) or something else?
I am very intrigued, but then I have come to expect nothing less from Neil Gaiman.

Just barely got my hands on the book. I'm excited to look through and see what i think about the first bit.
