Can anyone recommend a really good, recently released horror novel?

Micky Blue Skies | 114 comments There is a Horror Afficiando group. They may have some really good recommendations. I am on the hunt myself for something really good and scary myself but seem to keep coming up short.

I feel like I may have to go back into some of the older novels to get the sort of scare that I'm looking for.

Kim (kimgm) | 1032 comments Have you tried Joe Hill's novels? He's Stephen King's son and his novels are usually super creepy. I read one of his early novels, Heart-Shaped Box, and it scared the bejesus out of me. :)

I have to co-sign Kim's rec of Heart-Shaped Box. This isn't my normal genre but borrowed the audio book from my library, and found it terrifying.

That's good to know! I have a copy of Heart-Shaped Box!!! I didn't know that was Stephen King's son. Must run in the family.....

Kim Faulks (kim_faulks) | 6 comments I'm a horror author and have just released a decent haunting read if you're still on the look out Michelle. I'll post the link here, if not I can recommend some of Jack Kilborn, he's not bad, but it takes a lot to scare me. End of DreamsSecrets Room

Thanks Kim!

Micky Blue Skies | 114 comments Michelle,

I have actually been on a quest to find a very, very scary book and I have been coming up short. I may find a few really good mysteries or paranormal, but have yet to come upon a, "Too afraid to turn off the lights," kind of scary but gore free book (I don't like gory).

I used to read Stephen King when I was younger, but now he just takes too long to get to the meat. When you find something, please let me know.

Debby (debbeecakes) | 9 comments I want a book that will scare me but not gross me out. The kind that will make me peek around the corner and turn all the lights on the room just to wash my hands! Lol

AAAAAGH! Finding a "too afraid to turn of the lights" book shouldn't be so difficult. I did purchase of copy of Twilight Eyes by Dean Koontz because I was told that it was a pretty scary read. I haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I'll keep everyone posted.

Have you tried Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill ? I bought that one too, but haven't gotten around to reading it yet.

Stolie77 | 15 comments Don't know if anyone is still up for a good horror novel and these aren't IR but J.A. Konrath books scare the bejesus outta me and I love horror and DO NOT scare easily...Trapped was the best in my opinion (made me sleep with the lights on) but endurance and afraid are decently scary. I also enjoyed the book dead stop by d nathan hilliard.

Stolie77 | 15 comments Let me know what yall think!

message 17: by Micky Blue Skies (new)

Micky Blue Skies | 114 comments Stolie,

I have tried Konrath and each time I wind up putting the book away. He just could not get me chilled let alone scared. HOWEVER, it is very hard to frighten me. I have been looking for something absolutely terrifying for the last couple of years but I have not found anything on that level yet.
:-(

I will look into Nathan Hilliard though.

Stolie77 | 15 comments Aw I'm sorry! Well if it's any consolation i know the feeling. I've been meaning to try the book "troop" not sure the author but I've read that Stephen King liked it. It's tough finding good scares I know. I also heard Swan song?? Was a good one but i haven't tried it. Some of the older classics leave me meh...

Micky Blue Skies | 114 comments Well, I just downloaded Dead Stop and hopefully that will give me a good fright. It looks really good.

message 20: by Stolie77 (new)

Stolie77 | 15 comments Oooo I can't wait to hear what you think. There are some stereotypes but once the book gets going, I liked it a lot!
