He asks"who would you choose to rewrite Austen ?". Well - I wouldn't and can't understand why anyone else would quite frankly.

Exactly - I mean It's not the plots that people love about Austen so much as her characters, humour, and insights into human nature. Why on earth would you need Austen to be rewritten for the modern world - surely the original continues to do just fine.

Hmmm.... does it seem like dumbing down to anyone????

How about, instead of rewriting classics for the modern generation, we raise education standards so that children grow up learning to appreciate Austen, along with Shakespeare, Dickens etc, and to appreciate the English language in all it's glory.

Could you imagine the start of a revamped Pride & Prejudice?

I always thought totes were cosy socks with grips on the underneath - first time I heard someone saying that it did take me a minute to figure it out :S

So it is, what a useful word to stand for so many things. I can work out why a bag might be a tote - toting stuff around in it. Why the cosy slippers were called totes I can't quite work out. But they were very comfortable to wear!
