Kailey (lukutuokka) Has anyone been to any really good concerts lately? There are few things better than a good live performance of your favorite music.

Agreed! I haven't been to any good shows in a while. I used to go to really great shows all the time. My boyfriend and I for the heck of it( and because they were 10 bucks) went to Q concert..3oh!3 was there, the ting tings, all american rejects, asher roth, the veronicas, flo rida, jesse mccartney, and the black eyed peas. The only people I was itching to see were the Ting Tings. I wanted to kill myself while I was there because of all the teenagers..but it was fun to just relax out in the nice sun and listen to music!

Some of my favorite concerts:

Eisley
Copeland
The Appleseed Cast
Death Cab (before they were cool) haha
Kings of Convenience
Nada Surf

message 3: by Janet (new)

Janet I went last year and am going again this year to 1964- The Beatles Tribute Band!! So fun!!!!

message 4: by Kailey (new)

Kailey (lukutuokka) I am looking forward to a show coming up on Sept. 10th. It will be in San Francisco at Slim's. Obituary is headlining and the three supporting acts are Goatwhore, the Berzerker and my personal favorite Krisiun. I love a good metal show.

message 5: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) I haven't been to a show in years. I went to one a week practically in high school. The last one I went to was Reggie and the Full Effect, Alkaline Trio and My Chemical Romance.
There's this toothpase for dinner comic that says you are old if your favorite band is touring, but the closest they come is two towns over and you will not go see them. That is my life now - the closest anyone comes is Santa Cruz or San Francisco and I don't want to drive to either of those places by myself.

message 6: by Kailey (new)

Kailey (lukutuokka) Ahh hockey games. I got to see the Sharks play this year in San Jose. It was my first NHL game. Up until then I had only been able to go to college games.

message 7: by Kailey (new)

Kailey (lukutuokka) The last time I saw GWAR is rained in the middle of the set. I think that it had been raining on me for at least a song before I even noticed!!

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

I've been to one concert in my life: Eminem in 2004. Man, I loved him back then...I absolutely hate him now.

I go to gigs the whole time though. I cannot feckin' WAIT for Leftover Crack and Subhumans!!

message 9: by Witch (last edited Jun 09, 2009 06:57PM) (new)

Witch (nozomiviridae) I almost saw Leftover Crack! But they were in Denver, and my friend backed out on me, so I didn't go.

I've seen...

Backstreet Boys.
Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The Unseen.
HorrorPops.
The Pink Spiders (x2).
Stone Temple Pilots.
Motorhead (Lemmy is legend).
Foo Fighters.

...and lots others.

I remember at the HorrorPops show, towards the end the drummer threw his drumstick, and I caught it, and so did this other chick, and we pretty much fought over it. Her friends were grabbing her and pulling her, and my friends were pulling me, and finally I felt the light over us and I let go. It was all fun.

There's a little venue here that has mostly local punk bands and some metal, and I haven't been there in a long time.

There's an awesome venue in Morrison, Red Rocks, and it's pretty much a state park. The amphitheatre is outdoors, and it's surrounded by large rock that amplifies the sound. That's where I saw Stone Temple Pilots and the Foo Fighters.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh Nozomi, you should have gone! Leftover Crack are beyond amazing. What music are you into?

message 11: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) It's so sad. In high school, concerts were my life and we would go to one probably every other weekend. Now it seems like I just don't have the time (or the money) to go to any. I think it's been probably a year since my last and that one was Sanctus Real. I've got to get to more! I've been thinking about going to the Blink reunion tour...that would be pretty awesome.

message 12: by Meredith (last edited Jun 16, 2009 09:05PM) (new)

Meredith Saw Beirut a few months ago. I love them like an addict loves heroin.
Also saw the Ting Tings, Ra Ra Riot, and Jens Lekman last year. All were very good--although I'm not much of a Jens Lekman fan.

message 13: by Witch (new)

Witch (nozomiviridae) Roisu wrote: "Oh Nozomi, you should have gone! Leftover Crack are beyond amazing. What music are you into?"

I'm actually into anything I like. My favorite genre ever is grunge, but I don't limit by genre, other than rock. Just some of my favorite bands...Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, the Distillers, Rancid, The Doors, Queens of the Stone Age...the list is endless. How about you?

message 14: by [deleted user] (last edited Jun 19, 2009 12:50PM) (new)

The Distillers are great, Brodie Dahl has an AMAZING voice! Rancid ain't bad either! I listen to mainly punk and classical/film scores/new-age. Stuff like Leftover Crack, Star Fucking Hipsters,Dead Kennedys, Oi Polloi, James Horner, Mozart, Yiruma!

message 15: by Witch (last edited Jun 20, 2009 02:34AM) (new)

Witch (nozomiviridae) I don't want to say I "grew" out of punk, and I don't want to say I came out of my "punk phase" because those both have negative connoctations, but I used to listen to A LOT of punk in high school. Ramones, Sex Pistols, Rancid, the Unseen, the Adicts, the Mansfields, Leftover Crack, Misfits (hey, they opened for Motorhead), Left Alone... But I still listen to the Distillers, Rancid, and Tim Armstrong's solo stuff sometimes.

I love Brody Dalle. Have you listened to her new band, Spinnerette? It's actually very different from her Distiller days. You can tell she's really influenced by Josh Homme, her husband. But I like Josh Homme anyway, he's the singer in my other favorite band Queens of the Stone Age, and also a part of Eagles of Death Metal. It's funny how all my favorite bands are connected. I just love her voice--I listen to Courtney Love sometimes (blegh) and Brody Dalle sings so much better.

message 16: by [deleted user] (last edited Jun 20, 2009 03:37AM) (new)

Hahaha, Misfits are cool! I mean, what other bands lyrics are like "If I cut off your arms and cut off
your legs Would you still love me anyway?" Check out Star Fucking Hipsters- its's Stza Crack's new band. It's punk, but quite different from Leftover Crack/Choking Victim.

I haven't listened to Spinerette, are they good? What grunge bands would you recommend? I know Nirvana (as does the rest of the planet) but I don't know much else..and yeah, theres no comaparison between Courtney Love and Brody Dalle, Brody is waaaay better.

Do you know any good punk/metal/grunge bands either with all girls or with a girl in them? My friends and I are always complaining about how there aren't enough girls in punk.

message 17: by Witch (new)

Witch (nozomiviridae) Wow, you're up late. (Or rather, I am, since you're across the globe.)

I like Spinnerette, but my friend, who introduced me to punk, doesn't as much.

Hrm...female punk and grunge. Well, the only other female punk band I know is Retching Red. They're kind of obscure, and I have to admit that I don't like the singer that well. But you can download both their albums on their website, I think. As for grunge, other than Hole, there's Babes in Toyland, L7, and Veruca Salt but they're more riotgrrl bands, than grunge. I really like L7 though.

As for grunge all together--grunge is really a genre that a lot of different alternative sounds from the early 90s got thrown into by the media, really. But try Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Hole, Alice In Chains. People consider the last to be metal, and like I said, grunge isn't really definitive. xD

And female metal...depends on the type of metal. I don't know any female metal bands that go with my definition of metal, but there's Lacuna Coil who other people consider metal. It's more goth-metal, like Marilyn Manson...

Genres are so confusing.

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments I haven't been to many concerts. I went to an American Idol concert a few years ago, and just a few weeks ago I got to go to a David Archuleta concert after a soccer game. We were only 15 feet away from the stage! I would LOVE to see Coldplay in concert, they came to Utah earlier this year, I really wanted to go.

For my mom's birthday my brother and I bought her tickets to see Rod Stewart. This is the only thing she has wanted for as long as I can remember.

Anyways, I "won" the nomination of the children and "got to" go with her. I really don't mind his music, so I figured it would be okay. Boy is he old.

Well, the concert was good, not great, but he had a band open for him that I have never heard of.
The Kin. They are from Australia, and I really enjoyed their music. Has anyone else heard of them?

message 20: by Silvia (new)

Silvia (silverware) | 436 comments I saw Akon, Kardinal Official and Pitbull less than 2 weeks ago at a Summer Fest concert and I had sooo much fun!!! But Akon did not sing live!!! I was dissapointed about that!

Other people I've seen in concert have been James Blunt, Feist, Rihanna, Kerri Hilson, Kanye West, Lil Wayne and T-Pain! I am a concert fanatic!

I booked Russell Peter tickets in September and I cant wait. He's a comedian and has me laughin till my stomach hurts.

message 21: by carole (new)

carole (atitlesummer) I love to see local shows and small bands perform! It becomes so personal and you usually get to meet the band! Last November is amazing. I saw them twice in June and they're coming back to town in October! They are awesome musicians and some really fun down to earth guys! The Honorary Title is another great band I'm going to see their show next month!

message 22: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline | 59 comments The last concerts I went to were Mos Def, 311, and Rilo Kiley. I REALLY wanted to go to Coachella this year to see The Cure and a Morrissey concert, but I was low on funds at the time :(

message 23: by Seo (new)

Seo The last concerts I went to were The Duke and The King and then The Felice Brothers in the same week. The Duke and The King show was absolutely amazing.. so small, personal, and everyone got to meet and talk with the band.

Before that, I saw Bob Dylan (also performing with Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp), certainly not as intimate of a show.. but still amazing seeing the legend- bob dylan- live.

message 28: by Amy (new)

Amy (signgirlamy) Last concert I went to was Our Lady Peace a couple weeks ago. They aren't my favorite, but they're my friend's favorite band and he was dying to see them. They put on the best set I've seen at the House of Blues so no complaints from me.

I'm going to see Rob Thomas in October for my next concert; I'm so excited for this one!

message 29: by jessi (new)

jessi (infinitevantage) | 157 comments Ugh, I hate Rob Thomas lol.

message 30: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (_jes) I'm going to see Paramore in San Francisco on Oct. 2. Pretty excited!!

message 31: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments I went and saw Owl City in concert last night. It was fantastic! He knows how to put on a good show. The lighting was amazing, and he and the band we're having a blast up there performing.

message 32: by Bree (new)

Bree (breezybaby) | 144 comments Summertime is the time for concerts!! Anybody gone to any?

message 33: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin | 39 comments I haven't gone to a concert in awhile, but my favorite so far has been Ben Folds. He is just amazing live. And it's just him and a piano. It was one of the most fun experiences ever, even though I ended up having to go with a stranger (a friend of a friend) b/c my baby got sick and my husband had to stay home to take care of him.

message 34: by Natanya (new)

Natanya (vraisemble) | 255 comments Aside from seeing Dreamstreet (one of those short-lived boy bands I never listened to) during halftime at a hockey game when I was like 8, the only concert I've been to was when Maroon 5 came to my university last fall. It was pretty awesome, and I discovered that I still know all of the lyrics to their older songs, even though I haven't listened to them in years. :)

message 35: by Mark (new)

Mark Sullivan (marksul) Ottawa just had its annual Bluesfest, and I got to see Dream Theater, Iron Maiden, The Arcade Fire, and Weezer. All were amazing shows - The Arcade Fire put on one of the best I've seen in a while. Weezer's was also incredible - Rivers Cuomo got the crowd so pumped. It was a fun couple of weeks for shows!

message 36: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (samhanson) | 179 comments I also saw the Arcade Fire recently with Spoon. They were very good, and the crowd got so into it.

I saw Robyn and Kelis together last week too. It was great! I danced non-stop. Kelis mostly did her dance stuff of the new album, but she also performed versions of her older hits and covers of classic R&B jams. Both women looked awesome and really got the crowd pumped. Amaaazing show.

message 37: by Max (new)

Max So jealous of you, Samantha, for seeing the Arcade Fire and Spoon, all in one shot. I can just imagine how amazing they were.

I saw the Goo Goo Dolls with Switchfoot and the Spill Canvas two weeks ago, and I hate to say it but the Goo Goo Dolls are extremely low energy. I was kinda happy when the concert was over.

I also saw The Eagles this summer, and they're awesome. Age has done nothing to deter these guys, they're a talented bunch.

My favorite though was Rob Thomas (albeit a few months ago), with OneRepublic. Such an awesome concert. Although I am biased, I'm in love with Rob Thomas.

Richard (nemzep95) | 448 comments A few months ago I went to a concert that had: A Rocket to the Moon and F.U.N.

It was AWWWEEESOMMEEEE!!! I loved it!!!!

EDIT: It was also my first concert xD.

message 39: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Michelle, I am so jealous of all the shows you've seen! I love Goo Goo Dolls, but that's kinda sad they're so low energy. It doesn't really surprise me though. The Eagles would be amazing to see in concert! And OneRepublic? So lucky!

message 40: by Max (new)

Max Kimberly, OneRepublic blew my mind. I wasn't a huge fan when I saw them (I did like them, but I didn't listen to them regularly), but that completely changed when I saw them live. The frontman Ryan Tedder played about every instrument on stage, including guitar, piano, some bongos that were brought out, harmonica, bass, and I'm pretty sure the drums, though I may be mistaken. And his voice is amazing. So much better than what we hear on his CDs/the radio.

Also, I have to admit... I think talent is sexy. And although Ryan Tedder isn't techincally gorgeous, when I saw him on stage... phew. :P

message 41: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Oh, wow. I would love to see that! I love it when a performer is that talented. And it's not that often that you find a group that is actually better live.

message 42: by Richard (new)

Richard (nemzep95) | 448 comments Rocket to The Moon was definitely better live. F.U.N. sounded about the same, but the lead singer was all over the place. He had SO much energy. And afterwards we got to talk to the band :D.

We always have some sort of country concert along with our 3 day rodeo, and this year, they have added two other concerts alongside. So along with Western Underground, there is going to be Firehouse (a horrendously awesome 80's hair band) and someone called The Maine. I am not familiar with them, is anyone?

message 45: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (samhanson) | 179 comments Last weekend I went to the Female Fronted (Fuck Yeah!) Festival. It was a bunch of all-female or female-fronted bands and solo acts and it was really great! They're all small independent bands so I didn't know any going in, but there was rock, hip-hop, electronic, punk, folk and it was all really good.

message 46: by Natanya (new)

Natanya (vraisemble) | 255 comments A week and a half ago I saw Lady Antebellum at the New York State Fair, but we were at the very back (it was a free concert, not counting the actual fair admission fee, so if we'd wanted to be close to the stage we would have needed to have gotten there at like 4pm for the 8pm concert) so a lot of people were talking...but I did sort of see them. They played a lot of covers, though, which was kind of odd. And then afterward it took us 2.5 hours just to get out of the parking lot (and we were an hour away from school to begin with) because the Justin Bieber concert had been rescheduled to that same night -- there were an estimated something like 96,000 people there between the two concerts. It was insane.

I love Lady Antebellum, I put them on replay all day. I love American Honey and I Run to You.

message 48: by Natanya (new)

Natanya (vraisemble) | 255 comments I love both of those songs too! My boyfriend recently got me into them...one of my best friends also loves country music, but I managed to avoid listening to it for most of my life. But I like some of it now haha :)

message 49: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Country is cool. I'm not big into it but I'll definitely listen to the artist that I love and know. I’ve never been to a concert before. I was supposed to go and see La Roux with some friends but it didn’t work out.
